The Daddy Thread

In Tallaght this time with the little lad.

He fell in crèche earlier and landed on a sharp shape piece.

Wouldn’t you know it but the cut is right in the crease in the corner of his eye. Waiting for the doctor to come back with a plan of action. I’m predicting a full eye bandage with a trip to the Eye and Ear for checking the eye itself.

I did a fair stint in the Eye and Ear as a chap. Me poor mam was tormented as I was tormented. She had some patience. Mind that young lad. Hopefully be a good outcome.

Update.

No full eye bandage just a cream to prevent infection.

Eye and Ear tomorrow morning. Consultant in Tallaght happy the eye is ok but wants to make sure.

I have to say excellent service in Tallaght. They arranged the appointment in the Eye and Ear and gave the little lad the best of care.

Ouch. Poor maneen. Be better before he’s twice married PG

Yeah, eyes and ears will be the least of his problems

Tallaght is the best kept secret in Dublin. We head there any time ahead of Temple St or Crumlin, thankfully on a rare occasion.

So all good.

The wound is a scratch in the doctor’s opinion which will heal itself with an ointment. Nothing to worry about,

Thanks for the good wishes.

How you managed to wrangle 60 likes, a week’s work out of a squad of doctors and nurses, half a tank of diesel and two hospital visits, and a tibe of placebo…out of a scratch

Its probably too late for you, but that cub needs to man up.

They all count

Farmer about 5.25 this evening….

Is there any talk on this forum at all around child care costs? A very half arsed search found nothing.

It seems to me like an absolutely broken industry in Ireland where the relationship between supply and demand is completely busted from a traditional economics point of view.

Demand for places for children in government registered creches are like gold dust if you can’t find them you have to find an alternative which leads to a significant amount of childminders that are working for cash. Supply of creches is dwindling with large numbers closing due to the crushing costs of keeping the business running e.g. insurance.

There is essentially a two tier system whereby if you can manage to get your child into a creche you get all the benefits of the National Childcare Scheme. i.e. Either the universal subsidy or the income assessed subsidy.

From talking to people in a similar situation to us it seems like if you can’t get your child into a creche and you don’t have any immediate family options then you’re pushed down the unregulated route and are probably going to pay at least twice what you would have paid otherwise.

It was a big talking point in the general election for about 2-3 days and then it just fell off the radar.

I have two small children and this is the second biggest cost to me at the moment outside my mortgage.

Yep. Shocking all round. Heavily funded but they’re closing and struggling to keep staff. Someone’s making serious coin. Insurance companies most likely.

I send mine for an hour in the morning for breakfast club and they walk them into school then. Twice in the past month they have contacted all parents asking/pleading for anyone who doesn’t badly need the services that week to contact them as they don’t have enough staff to serve all. Similar story in nearby creches…

Id say discussed plenty on here years ago…crèche staff are paid an absolute pittance. It’s a disgrace as they are absolutely pivotal in preparing a child for school not just in socialising them but in giving them a positive experience of being dropped in the morning, if kids learn to dislike that at an early age then school won’t be easy

Broken system as right

The eldest starts school in September - after schools clubs/services/places all but non existent.

We met with a lady who had three school going kids and was willing to child mind at her house for a few hours. She said she could only do Monday to Thursday and wanted then bones of €800 a month for 2.5hours a day 4 days a week.

She will find someone in bond who will pay that no doubt.

When I moved home first young fella couldn’t go to crèche with his sister because the younger rooms were full. An older lady friends with my parents took him from 8am til 6pm 3 days a week for a hundred a week…she was nearly retired from childminding and had two girls in sixth that she had minded since they were 2. They doted on my lad like he was a toy… He meets all three of them now and they be poking and prodding him and asking him a thousand q and he doesn’t remember one iota of the few years there aside from what we have told him

Jaysus. Our lass does 14 hours a week in afterschool. €40 per week. Not too bad in fairness.
