Was trying to be there this weekend but not to be.
Id say the only times I haven’t been miserable for a few years now was when I was travelling. I don’t want to go all Michael from the Sopranos on it but I struggle with the “regularness of life.” Every time I think about doing the same shite, staring at a fucking screen for the rest of my life I find it all really pointless
Would you be interested in getting involved in a local sports club as a coach or on the admin side? I know you’re probably still shellshocked to have ended up in Laois. But what a mouthwatering challenge to tilt a GAA club’s entire outlook & raison d’etre (as they say in France) from organising stewards for ploughing matches to actually producing winning teams.
Here’s a weird one, but go and visit the donkey sanctuary if you can. It’s free. It’s a pleasant walk in the countryside in a nice part of the country, and you interact with the donkeys who are big auld softies. It’ll lighten the mood for a few hours anyhow.
Be careful what you wish for. At least with the civil service job, you have job security, so that is a big positive in this day and age. Maybe you could move internally? Would you be able to do some kind of manual job instead of being on the screen all the time?
You live near here, the Cathole Falls. Myself and a buddy swam here last Sunday morning. Class spot. Has a Sauna there too. Went for a coffee and a sausage roll in the Glenbarrow Cafe after. Who would have known what Laois had to offer.
Trust me, a dip here and you’ll feel great.
Why don’t you volunteer a couple of hours a week with any charitable organisation providing meals to the elderly or infirm. Saturday/Sundays will fit your schedule and when you’re out delivering meals to folk you’ll come across some incredibly interesting and warm-hearted folk making the best of their situations.
Putting on my @KinvarasPassion hat you’d never know how it could pan out.
