Former Dragons’ Den star and high-profile businesswoman Sarah Newman and her husband, Lord Henry Digby have separated, the Sunday Independent can reveal.
Newman tied the knot with the English peer, who has the title Baron of Offaly, in November last year.
The self-made millionaire, who sold her company Needahotel.com in 2006 for a reported €30m, had been dating him since 2021.
After their wedding, she became known as Lady Sarah Digby.
Friends said Newman was “blind-sided” by the end of her marriage.
A source said she did not see it coming, that she felt the couple were “very much in love and happy” and this has shaken Newman to the core.
“She really can’t understand what has happened. She is a strong woman, but this has rocked her,” the source said.
Another source said she was “devastated”.
“She has been through a lot, but she is heartbroken,” they said. “She really loved Henry and thought they were going to be together for ever, but life happens and it takes turns you don’t expect. This is not something Sarah wanted.
“She is taking time out in Ireland and staying in Dublin for now, and she just wants privacy and time to figure things out. She has a lot of friends and a good support system.”

Newman has had more than her share of ups and downs. Over three decades, the entrepreneur and mother of two has come through divorce, bankruptcy, the public breakdown of her engagement to Kilkenny hurler DJ Carey, the fallout from the fraud Carey committed, depression, a stroke, long Covid and losing her mother to cancer.
Her marriage to Digby was meant to be her happy ending, but friends said it was not to be.

“This has taken everyone by surprise. We just didn’t see it coming. Sarah is keeping her circle small and not talking to many people,” said one.
The couple got married on Digby’s Minterne House estate in Dorset, which is set on 1,300 acres of land, and lived there.
Minterne has been home to the Digby and Churchill families since 1620.
The news of the break-up comes just four months after Newman spoke of how she had found happiness in a new chapter of her life.
On what she had learnt from her experience with Carey, she said: ‘Listen to the red flags’
In July, she told the Sunday Independent: “I’m very happy. I’ve got a very happy life and I’ve got very genuine friends who I love, adore, and hopefully they feel the same way about me.”
On what she had learnt from her experience with Carey, she said: “Listen to the red flags. But it’s easier said than done.”
She added that it had meant she “didn’t trust anybody for around 10 years”.
In 2021, she was introduced to Digby through mutual friends and the couple went out for three years before marrying.
Newman separated from her first husband, Patrick O’Donohoe, in 2000. They had two children, Patrick and Grace.

She then met DJ Carey and their relationship propelled her into the limelight as they regularly made the front pages.
She said life after bankruptcy and the end of her relationship with Carey had been “crushing”.
“To lose everything so publicly hit me hard. I felt naked, raw fear,” she said. “My relationship with DJ broke down, I was ridiculed by the press, I lost my home, I had no ‘running away’ money — I didn’t want to carry on.
“Every night I’d go to bed and pray I wouldn’t wake up. I was in a complete state of nervous breakdown. It got to the point where I couldn’t string a sentence together.”
She said at the time that she believed the stress may have led to her suffering a stroke at the age of 45.
She moved back to England to be close to her mother, who has since died from cancer.
Newman told a friend she is trying to understand how she will be able to move forward.
“Sarah is very, very low right now. I have never heard her so upset. She just can’t seem to get over the suddenness of this,” they said. “She still loves Henry. If she could work it out with him, she would.”
I doubt it. The aristocracy are no fools. I’d imagine the assets are held in a trust the way the Thomson-Moores had it. The Baron probably owns nothing.
