I’m not so sure Art. When all is said and done, it was still a private matter and if Madigan advise her it was as a solicitor and not as a TD.
A shit show for FG fair enough but possibly not a show stopper
Bailey had a fight on her hands at the next election before any of this swing business blew up, to hold off party colleague, Councillor Barry Ward B.L… She’s toast.
It is a spineless way out but it’s not the way out of this. Imagine the shitstorms if they whitewash this and then the legal papers are released. FG would be toast.
If FG booted Bailey out they might well hold two seats in Dun Laoghaire next time. They currently have three TDs in a four seat constituency but one was the Ceann Comhairle, Sean Barrett, who I imagine will be retiring at the next election given he’s 75.
As it is, I’d say they’ll only get Mitchell-O’Connor back in. The Greens will be pushing hard there and Fianna Fail will definitely pick up one. Boyd Barrett should hold on.
If they change the candidate they’ll have a good chance of holding two alright.
Its not an easy line people resort to, its the same as setting up a tribunal, now FG have the excuse of its being investigated for the next couple of weeks, so that takes it out of the news, then we have Brexit coming up on the agenda which will overshadow any other news stories for the forseeable future. Effectively they have a buried it, now what happens to Bailey if anything will be kept within the walls of FG HQ. Also add in the Dail Summer Recess and you can see that this story is now dead and buried.
The only thing is that there is cctv coverage of Baileys fall, now someone who may be a little pissed off at FG or maybe someone the Bailey cartel have damaged could leak that to a journalist or leak it online and then the story will be back back but now its dead.
I didn’t say it is like Moriarty, I said that now it is being investigated FG TD’s will not answer anything on it and effectively kill the story. Only way it will come back in 2 weeks is if there is nothing else happening.
Alan Shatter on Sean O’Rourke promoting his new book raises issue of who gave Bailey the legal advice just shortly after saying he had no issue with Josepha Madigan following last election.
