The Franco Sensi AS Roma 2013/14 Season Thread

Boca Juniors’ young forward Leandro Paredes has commented that ‘I am a Roma player’, ahead of completing an anticipated loan move.

The 19-year-old was confirmed yesterday by Boca’s President as having been given permission to join the Giallorossi on a believed 18-month loan deal.

On from arriving in the capital early on Tuesday morning, the Argentine was caught by reporters.

“I am a Roma player. I’m very happy, it was what I wanted,” Paredes is quoted by the Gazzetta dello Sport this week.

“I’m only a little confused, I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.

“To play with Francesco Totti? He is an idol of Roma. For me, it is an immense pleasure to be in the same stadium, with the same people.

“The fans of Boca are know around the world but also the Giallorossi are very welcoming. I am looking forward to playing.

“My foot injury? It is better, in 10 days I will resume training. My goal in this year-and-a-half is to push Roma to redeem my rights.”

Nainggolan expected to complete a medical over the coming days. I would also like to take this time to announce my resignation as chairman of this thread and bestow the honour to my friend, @JBL. I will remain a committed and passionate contributor to this thread and would like to pass on my best wishes to @JBL and encourage others to do likewisee. I am under no illusions he will do a terrific job and carry on our long and illustrious unbroken tradition.

Nainggolan’s move should be complete before the end of the week, I’d imagine he will be the only name in this window that will play an active part until the end of the season. Paredes is in Rome and looks likely to be farmed out to Sampdoria for the rest of the season. Abner continues to be linked and it’s felt he will arrive next summer while we also look like we are going to win the race for Sanabria of Barcelona. We have already secured Serbian youngsters Radjonic and Gobulovic for next season.

The focus seems to be very much back on youth after signing a couple of experienced players this summer.

Romagnoli is set for a loan move to Spezia. I would also expect Marquinho, Caprari and Borriello to depart before the window closes. Ricci also looks like he will go out on loan to Crotone.

Thanks for all the work and effort on this the finest of threads

Sanabria has confirmed he will be joining Roma. He can’t play for us until June (due to the same reason as Paredes) and is likely to join another Italian side on loan until then.

Barcelona B teenage striker Antonio Sanabria has revealed he’ll join Roma, turning down Arsenal.

“I will soon go on loan to a different Serie A team,” the Paraguayan told Radio Monumental.

“The club will give me some options, as for six months I can’t play at Roma. They have already deposited the necessary funds to the Spanish Federation for the sum Barcelona requested.”

It is believed the clause is worth €3m, but due to various loopholes he cannot technically sign for Roma until the summer.

Sanabria will instead likely be loaned to Sampdoria or Sassuolo to gain SerieA experience.

The 17-year-old had also been heavily linked with Arsenal, but has opted for Roma instead.

Despite his tender age, the forward already has four senior caps with Paraguay.

Abner is also close to signing for June as well.

Can we say that now you are a Roma player?
“Almost, there are still some small details to be determined.”

Economic aspects?
“Also, but not only.”

Coming in June?
“Yes, not before.”

Have you ever been to Rome?
“No, never. My agent, however, came several times to talk with the club.”

What is the percentage of seeing you with the Roma shirt?
“The percentages are very large.”

Are there other teams interested?
“Yes, there are a couple of other clubs who would like to sign me.”

If it were up to you?
“I would choose Roma.”

Would you do it to play with Maicon?
“Sure, it is certainly an important factor.”

I’d imagine with these deals already in the pipeline we won’t be doing much activity in the summer, Taddei and Burdisso will leave at the end of their contracts so we will bring in a centre back and probably someone like Pastore.

Reports that Michael Bradley is heading to FC Toronto in a €7m move. I think we could still do with Bradley so I’d expect/hope we will go for Parolo if he does go. Bit surprised all the same as he’s a pretty reliable squad player to have but there were reports that he was unhappy with the amount of game time he received.

A goal from Torosidis has us 1-0 up at home to Sampdoria in the Coppa. Nainggolan makes his debut.

Skorupski

Torosidis Burdisso Castan Dodo

Taddei De Rossi Nainggolan

Florenzi Destro Ljajic

Looks almost certain Bradley is off to Toronto for between €7-8m and we are now said to be in pole position for the new Zlatan - Valmir Berisha. We’re also being linked with Barcelona’s Martin Montoya, presumably on a bosman in the summer.

1-0 at FT.

Only caught the second half but it was a very stale performance. Midfield looked a bit rudderless and it’s becoming more apparent that Pjanic is the key man in that midfield he is the one who make those creative passes forward from deep. De Rossi is becoming too deep and too passive - he started to season on fire but has reverted to the form he has shown in the previous 3/4 seasons now. He just looks to take the sting of things. Nainggolan and Strootman are similar players, they are industrious and do a lot of the dirty work but their limitations show when asked to play a more productive role. Taddei has been finished for years and contributes nothing.

The attack was very poor - Florenzi very wasteful and his passing was poor. Ljajic is becoming a major worry for me, clear to see the talent but his decision making is awful. Destro was becoming visibly frustrated with him (and Gervinho when he came on) due to their wastefulness on the ball, constantly taking too many touches and not letting the ball off early enough. Gervinho on the large part has been poor since his return from injury - the exception being his wonderful performance against Fiorentina. Like Ljajic he keeps taking too much out of the ball in situations where he needs to be swift and decisive.

The defence was very good. Torosidis was bombing forward with great effect and Dodo did well on the left. Burdisso was excellent at the back. With Bradley away I think it’s very important we get in another midfielder, hopefully someone with a bit more creativity. Parolo does not neccessarily fit the bill of a creative player but he does have more of a creative edge is in locker than either Strootman or Nainggolan. I think we also need an attacker given the way Ljajic and Gervinho’s form have dipped.

Marquinho and Borriello weren’t involved tonight either so expect them gone before the window closes.

Borriello seems to be at the centre of a duel between Fiorentina and Inter as well as being followed by a number of English clubs. Hopefully it will be a permanent transfer this season as he has another 18 months left on his contract. Marquinho has turned down a move to Genoa and it seems Fiorentina are now interested in taking him. If we get rid of these two I would be hopeful we would bring in a midfielder - most likely Parolo. I also feel we need another attacker but I’m less hopeful we will get one. I would love to see Cerci back at Roma and it would be a real signal of intent if we did bring him home.

Home against Genoa today and we are without De Rossi, Castan and Ljajic through suspension. I would supect we will go to a 4-2-3-1 formation today which we used in our last home league game against Catania.

Burdisso should partner Benatia at the back. I would suspect Nainggolan and Strootman will hold the fort in midfield, Pjanic has been struggling with injury in the build up to this game so the only real decision to be made is whether he or Florenzi starts in one of the wide positions along with Gervinho. Totti will most likely play in behind Destro.

West Ham are meant to have agreed a deal for Borriello with us but the move will all hinge on whether Marco wants to drop down to the EPL.

Destro on the bench, Florenzi and Pjanic start.

I really hate it when we play without a natural striker.

Having plenty of the ball, getting into dangerous areas and creating nice openings but we have no target in the box. Destro needs to come on - he should be starting - no question.

Wonderful turn and run from Totti earns a free in a dangerous area.

Little Ally Boy Florenzi has opened the scoring with a sublime bicycle kick in off the far post.
