I only knew him to see from training/matches and then bumped into him in cheltenham full as a bingo bus a few years ago. Asked him had he any winners and he said he didn’t really bet.

On Liveline yesterday Joe Duffy was asking people to ring in suggestions for Uachtarán na hÉireann.

Some fella rang in to suggest Daniel O’Donnell. I did the :rollseyes: gesture to myself and listened to the caller waffle away about how Daniel O’Donnell was hugely popular in Ireland, “and very intelligent”, says Joe.

Then the next caller suggests PJ McManus. This guy was a proper forelock tugger. He could have been a return caller after the Kyle Hayes programme. “Why would you pay tax when you don’t have to, Joe?” he shouted.

I started thinking that maybe I want Daniel O’Donnell as president.
