Thought I’d start a thread to keep track of how Irish players are getting on with their respective clubs - goals, form, getting dropped etc.
Watched some of Match of the Day last night and observed the following:
Steven Reid made a decent goal-line clearance for Blackburn. They’re an average to respectable EPL side so he’s doing well to be a mainstay in that side.
Andy Keogh got two goals for Wolves. Good player whenever I’ve seen him. Stephen Elliott got one too I think - don’t think he’s good enough but interesting to see Keogh, Elliott and Ward (3 young Irish strikers) all fighting for places at Wolves, though Ward has played mainly as a winger this season.
John Joe O’Toole got a consolation goal for Watford in that game too.
league one has lost a lot of its glamour lately as denis “the beast” behan is out injured hence Hartlepool’s season has taken a turn for the worst.
other former cark city players currently in action
john o’flynn - having a good season at Barnet.
colin healy - doing nothing at ipswich
darren murphy - playing well @ stevenage
alan bennett - brentford maybe??
other players that come to mind
wes hoolahan - having a great season at norwich.
daddy dick - aka steven ireland is still doing well at man city.
anthony stokes - scored again for hibs today.
keith fahey - no sign of him lately at birmingham.
ritchie foran - playing for inverness
any news on sean dillon?

former LOI players
former rovers star hunt is injured i think
mccourt still not a 1st teamer for cletic
mcginn not doing much either
dave mooney is on loan at charlton
gary doherty scored again today for norwich.
ian harte and graham kavanagh are playing regularly for carlisle.
Leon Macseewney used to feature regularly for Stockport but i’ve no idea what he is at now.
i see fabio o’brien joined Valetta in Malta from st. pats last week also…
had a super game on lennon…played him really well…stood on top of him and didn’t let lennon get a run at him…cleared everything first time…Ward would have played fcuk all at left back for bohs sledge?..he was left wing and striker for some games i think…some adjustment for him
Yeah he was a striker and Wolves converted him to a full back last season. No harm because he’s probably not big or powerful enough to be a top level striker but at least they took the time to recognise his ability and make something out of him.
Its hard to know what that has to do with Irish fellas playing soccerball in England but thanks for the update anyway:thumbsup:
Then again he is Jimmy Doyles brother in law and Jimmy used to kick over there…
I was left back on Ward’s school team as a nipper so he learned a lot from me. Incidentally I did win player of the year while neither himself nor gerrardno1 figured in awards shake up
I see Sean St Ledger is back at Preston after falling out with Gordon Strachan. He was initially signed in the summer by Southgate on loan with a view to making the deal permanent in January. I believe it was a ‘last minute’ deal as the deadline approached and loans can be finalised quicker so that’s the route they went down. Or something like that anyway. Not sure of the background to how he’s landed back at Preston.
David Meyler, son of former Wexford player and hurling manager John, started for Sunderland yesterday. ‘Mailer’ was how Tony Gubba was referring to him.

Seems like he did well too. Got booked early on with a tone-setting tackle and I’m fairly sure it was his pass that set up Bent’s second. “The new Roy Keane” I think we can safely say.
Daryl Murphy supplied the cross for the first and appeared to do a number of good things on the left wing.
Is it fair to say that we are not that badly off player wise at all, and have alot of lads doing well, and a nice bit of potential coming through.
I realise we haven’t many stars cominbg through that i know of yet, but Iirish players seem to be doing very well in general across the water.
I honestly wouldn’t have the watched as much or have the same in-depth knowledge of alot of ye guys, just wondering what the story from an “experts” point of view.
