Tony Leen. Sometimes I read pieces by him and I could swear it’s Hugh McIllvanney I’m reading.

most of Leen’s stuff is stolen from here, that’s why you enjoy it

Marie Crowe, how could I have got that wrong…

Pat McAuliffe.

For services to camogie, year in and year out on RTE.

Always manages to compile brief match reports (normally 90 to 180 seconds worth of highlights) in a professional and dignified manner. What that man does not know about camogie is not worth knowing. A 95% empty Nowlan Park, a 95% empty Semple Stadium, a 95% empty club ground - it makes no difference. If it’s a big camogie match Pat McAuliffe will be there.

I’ll nominate Paul Fitzpatrick for his wonderful tome on the Polo Grounds final…

The sports media in Ireland is woeful

:frowning:

chin up lads, we can still have an away day so that our favourite sports write knows how we feel about him

Can we refer to him as “a well known Irish sports journalist”?

well known data entry clerk at broadcaster

This award has lost his sparkle you feel.

While this award has lost its sparkle you feel.
He can be good, but he can be a bit childish as well. He had a right cut off Mayo lately as well as it seems they don’t want to do interviews about last year. He tried to mask it, but was clearly bent out of shape over it.

I pulled him on something a year or so ago in the comments section of one of his articles, nothing nasty or anything, it took a special request to get it ok for public reading even though other posts were put up that were made after mine but were more favour able to his view.

I think he’s good, but needs to be watched, carefully.
The undercurrent of menace in the final sentence is wonderful.
