no it wasnât salthill, I believe they are still a junior clubâŚit was an intermediate league teamâŚsomething Rovers, think it began with a MâŚ
there was a team mentioned but when a place came up SF were the only ones that wanted it I think
Itâs Mervue United Pukester. The bottom team in the first division now faces a play-off with them. Apparently, if any of the top 4 junior club sides now have facilities to meet FAI criteria, the highest ranked of these will go forward to an annual play-off with the bottom team. In other words, if the top 4 have proper facilities then the number 1 ranked team will go forward to the play-off, if the top ranked side doesnât have the necessary facilities then the next best team go forward but only if theyâre ranked in the top 4. If you have the facilities and arenât in the top 4 then you donât get the opportunity. Mervue Utd will be playing Kildare County over two legs soon.
thats them bandageâŚon the ball as always(or should that be offtheball)
Think this game has already been played over 2 legs, although I wasnât aware of the signifigance. Will check it out and come back to you.

Aye here we go.
Cannot believe that Mervueâs facilities meet minimum standards. All the best to them though. Salthill Devonâs A Championship campaign didnât go well - finished bottom.

Yep, Iâd read about the game taking place but hadnât realised the first leg was taking place the evening I posted. As the article says, the second legâs in Kildare on Friday night.
I see Dundalk had to cancel their celebratory parade because the manager is gone off in a huff over not getting a new contract and only one player remains contracted for next year.
Joke of a league.
Mervue United won 3-0 at Kildare County to get promoted to the Eircom League First Division.
The go through 5-2 on aggregate after salvaging a 2-2 draw at home earlier in the week after being 2-0 down at one stage.
A great achievement for them.
What sort of ground do Mervue have though Bandage? Are they going to ground share with United or something? Incredible that basically a housing estate can get promoted to the league.

They were 2-0 up in the first leg and were pegged back to 2-2. Fair fooks to them though - fantastic achievement. Letâs hope Salthill Devon can do the same.
Absolutely shocking âgroundâ tbh SS. Havenât played there for a few years but Iâm pretty sure it hasnât improved very much. Canât believe it meets minimum standards. There are just a few slanted, bumpy pitches, no stands or anything. Basically Iâd say thereâll just be a rope around the pitch to keep spectators the right distance away from the action on match days.
In other news, Jay OâShea scored two in a behind closed doors game against Crewe. Derby won 5-2 and had Ellington, Bywater and McEveley playing. Fair fooks to him.
Itâll be interesting to see how Galway United look next season. Iâm expecting a mass exodus. With Mervue going up to the First Division, youâd expect itâll be difficult to get players from around the town but they simply wonât have the money to sign decent calibre LOI players either. Strange times.
I see Drogheda, last years champions, renaged on their promise to pay people 30% of their agreed wages.
I also see Cobh are planning a return to the Munster Senior League.
Furthermore, it seems Mervue United have no intention of joining the LOI and the FAI have instructed the relegated team, Kildare County, to prepare a submission to stay in the LOI.
The whole thing will go belly up Iâd say. Nobody wants to know about it. I think myself when they made the move to summer soccer to take on their bigger and better cousin, the GAA, for the hearts and minds of the people they made a unbelievable error.
whatâs the story with Alan Matthews getting the boot from Cork? i thought he was doing well there. whereâs he likely to turn up next?
hopefully not rovers

cant see it NCCâŚCook will be there for the forseeable future
Agreed, who else could you give it to
Does anyone else find it strange that a club who is supposedly made up of republicans and the like have appointed a guy as their manager who togged out for the occupied 6? Would be similar to someone like Roy Keane managing Glentoran? Is this not something that would bother Rovers fans in general?
Was thinking the same thing myself Mac. But in fairness, he was managing Berwick Rangers before he got the Rovers job.
