The long and bumpy road to Super Bowl XLVI

Thatā€™s class, heā€™s a pain in the hole to follow on twitter with all his retweets and shit clogging up my feed. I think he may have trouble honouring the personal guarantee in the very last point thoughā€¦

Thereā€™s so much activity itā€™s unreal. Vince Young went to the Eagles! I completely missed that in CLDs earlier post.

The Eagles have done some incredible business yesterday.
Kolb is unproven so to get a high pick and DRC for him is massive. Not only that but they used the cap they saved to get Asomugha.

They basically traded Kolb for Asomugha, DRC, Young and a high draft pick.

And make no mistake, Young is a serious talent when his headā€™s right.
Playing behind Vick could be the making of him and itā€™s not out of the question that the Eagles will have their present and future running QB at the club to build and grow right now.

Agreed, Young is more talented than Kolb given what weā€™ve seen of both but obviously just has issues. If Reid can sort him out the Eagles will be a major threat. They should have their division sown up if they get everything together this year.

Brady on 85 ā€œHeā€™s been a very prolific receiver. I think heā€™s had a bunch of production over the years,ā€ Brady said. ā€œHopefully, he can come in here and find a role on this team, as weā€™re all trying to do.ā€

Heā€™s some legend

Incredible. Fly Eagles. Fly.

Congratulations Bandage. This must be a fantastic day for you.

The Eagles got Cullen Jenkins as well?
Fucking hell.

The Eaglesā€™ back office deserve immense credit. What an organisation. Iā€™m speechless.

They also re-signed 2010 Pro Bowler Jason Babin from the Titans.
Babin played for the Eagles in 2009.

He was used as a back-up by the Eagles. Went to Titans and had 12.5 sacks.

Itā€™s a stunning week of business from the Eagles.
They signed:
Nnamdi Asomugha - 4 Time All-Pro, 4 Time Pro Bowler CB
Dominic Rodgers Cromartie - Pro Bowl CB
Cullen Jenkins - 2010 Super Bowl Champion DE http://sportsillustrā€¦?sct=nfl_bf2_a4
Jason Babin - 2010 Pro Bowl DE with 12.5 sacks
Vince Young - QB 2006 NFL Rookie of the Year, 2 Time Pro Bowler
Donald Lee - Veteran TE. 2010 SuperBowl champion.
Johnny Lee Higgins - WR. 2008 All-Pro Punt returner from the Raiders

And they have an extra 2nd round pick next year from the possibly league worst Cardinals.

For a team that came closer than anyone to stopping the victorious Packers in the playoffs last year, you have to make the Eagles an easy SuperBowl favourite at the moment. [Still available at 12/1 in places]

NEW YORK (AP) ā€“ Plaxico Burress is back in the Big Apple ā€“ with the New York Jets.
The former Super Bowl star with the Giants, recently released from prison after serving 20 months on a gun charge, reached an agreement in principle Sunday on a one-year deal with the Jets, the team said.
Burress, who turns 34 on Aug. 12, caught the game-winning touchdown in the Giantsā€™ upset of the unbeaten New England Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl, before his career derailed after he accidentally shot himself in a New York nightclub later that year.
His second chance at the NFL comes with a team that was interested in him a few years ago before he went to prison. Now, heā€™ll likely join the recently re-signed Santonio Holmes as Mark Sanchezā€™s top receivers.
Burress wrote on his Twitter page: ā€œEast Coast here I come!ā€ Sanchez retweeted his new receiver and added: ā€œPaperwork in hand??? Haha welcome to the squadā€
Burress met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent his first five seasons, on Saturday after sitting down with Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Friday. Burress mentioned he would be interested in playing for several teams, including the Jets - and didnā€™t even need to meet with general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan to make his decision.
ESPN first reported the deal, saying it is for $3.017 million fully guaranteed. Burress was in Los Angeles on his way to a meeting with the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN reported, but canceled that trip when the Jets contacted him.
Because of the NFL post-lockout rules, Burress canā€™t practice with the team until Thursday. But clearly, the Jets are confident the former Pro Bowl receiver has a lot left as they try for a Super Bowl run. Burress gives Sanchez a big receiver - heā€™s 6-foot-5 - to complement Holmes, Jerricho Cotchery, Dustin Keller and a solid running game with Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson.
The Jets are hoping Burress can revive his career the way Michael Vick did with the Eagles after serving 21 months in prison for his involvement in a dogfighting ring.
Burress pleaded guilty in August 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November 2008, accepting a two-year prison term. He was released about three months early for good behavior, but will be on parole for two years.
He has to get and keep a job, undergo substance abuse testing, obey any curfew established by his Florida parole officer, support his family and undergo any anger counseling or other conditions required by his parole officer.
Burress has 505 catches for 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns in his NFL career with the Steelers and Giants.
He caught 35 passes for 698 yards and five touchdowns in his final year with Pittsburgh in 2004 as the Steelers slowly broke in Ben Roethlisberger, a rookie at the time. Burress moved on to New York, where he thrived catching balls from Eli Manning, but often ran into trouble with Coughlin.
The move softens the blow for the Jets after losing out on getting cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who was New Yorkā€™s top priority after re-signing Holmes. But Asomugha surprisingly signed with Philadelphia, and the Jets were forced to turn their attention elsewhere.
The addition of Burress likely means Braylon Edwards will not be back with the Jets after nearly two seasons in New York. Edwards, a free agent, repeatedly said he was interested in returning, but it was believed the Jets wouldnā€™t be able to keep both him and Holmes.
So, the Jets took a chance on Burress, hoping heā€™ll be able to help the passing game. Ryan, in a voice message to Jets fans after the lockout, said the team planned to have Sanchez ā€œlet it fly a little more than we have in the past.ā€
Burress appeared to have a good visit with the Steelers on Saturday, when the wide receiver caught up with former teammates - including Roethlisberger and Hines Ward - and met with owner Art Rooney, director of football operations Kevin Colbert and coach Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin called the sit-down ā€œgood,ā€ while the normally tight-lipped Colbert was decidedly open when talking about the nature of the discussion, saying: ā€œObviously heā€™s interested. Drew (Rosenhaus), his agent, is interested, and weā€™re certainly interested.ā€
That came a day after Burress spent 90 minutes talking with Coughlin. Despite not meeting with him during his visit, quarterback Eli Manning said he would be happy to have Burress back with the Giants, but added that he wasnā€™t going to lobby management to re-sign him. Manning and Burress combined for 33 touchdown receptions from 2005-08, with none being bigger than the game-winning TD in the Super Bowl victory over New England in February 2008, when Manning won the MVP.

Not the greatest signing in the world if thatā€™s to be our main improvement over last season. I know they say he canā€™t train but I imagine they were able to see him do some sort of drills or something? Terribly risky otherwise.

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) ā€“ Randy Moss is calling it a career after 13 seasons in the NFL as one of the most dynamic and polarizing players the league has ever seen.
Mossā€™ agent, Joel Segal, said Monday that the receiver was considering offers from several teams, but made the decision to retire. Segal declined to comment specifically on the offers, instead saying his client felt the time was right to step away.
Moss caught 954 passes for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns in a career spent with Minnesota, Oakland, New England and Tennessee.
The 34-year-old Moss bounced around the league in his final season, getting traded from the Patriots to the Vikings last season before he was cut and signed with the Titans.

TV rights in the UK have changed for this season:

Last year of Skyā€™s contract so they have the same as last year - 6pm and 9pm games on a Sunday and the Thursday games, Christmas games etc.

ESPN retain Monday Night Football.

The late game on a Sunday is now gone to Channel 4.

ESPN are showing some August preseason games:

Aug 12th
Seattle at San Diego 01:00

Aug 16th
Jets at Houston 01:00

Aug 23nd
Chicago at Giants 01:00

Aug 26th
Washington at Baltimore 01:00

Is that not exactly the same as last year?

Yes, it is.

I hate asking posters for apologies but Rocko, could you oblige please?

Channel 4 didnā€™t have those Sunday night games last year.

Iā€™m pretty sure they did.
