The Baseball Ground was a fantastic old ground for cup ties.

Funny you mention John Harkes, he got an absolute screamer from about 35 yards for Sheffield Wednesday in a League Cup tie circa November 1990. They went on to win the competition.

There was another cracking FA Cup tie there in 1992 when Derby played Villa, Villa winning 4-3 with Garry Parker starring. Derby 3 Coventry 2 in 1997 was another smashing tie on a Wednesday night, Derby coming back from 2-0 down to win.

It was originally a Baseball ground.

Was baseball big in derby at some stage? Sort of like cricket in Kilkenny?

Yes in the 1890s they had a professional baseball team there.

In Kilkenny?

“Oezil needs to do more.” - Danny Murphy on co-commentary. Did anybody have 11 minutes in the sweep?

That was a lovely goal.

Wazza.

I think Di Maria has looked a class above the rest of the United team here. His close control is wonderful, he is constantly looking to create, making great runs but none of the rest of the team seem on the same wavelength, with the exception of Rooney on that one occasion.

He looks really out of form to me

I was just coming on to post that he looks completely bereft of confidence. Rooney is far superior to him tonight.

A rip roaring first half. Easy to see why this is the greatest club football competition in the world.

Rooney has been having giving the Arsenal back 4 a tough time. United getting back on level terms so quickly was crucial. Since then they have been playing the better stuff.

Oh Danny Boy…

Rojo should be off here.

That was gas shit from Man Utd defenders for the goal

Bellerin lucky to escape a 2nd yellow. Welbeck would have fell over if he was in a United shirt for his goal rest assured.
