You get some extremes with Superhero movie reviews because the genre is tiring on critics who don’t like these types of movies. People on the outside looking in see them all as interchangeably similar movies.
The latest Xmen is a good example. Perfectly good movie that got worse reviews than it deserved.
I’m going to Suicide Squad on Friday night. I’d like for it to be very good or very bad. If it is bad enough they’ll have to think about wiping the DC slate clean and start from scratch. I know, reboot after reboot. I’d rather it not be a middle of the road meh and have the DC universe trundle along aimlessly for a couple of more years. It has a huge amount of buzz so it will likely do good box office money.
I have a problem with the overuse of anti-heroes. It’s like your movie/show can’t have a bad guy any more they have to be some kind of redeeming feature where they can eventually be turned good. It’s why Thanos needs to be an absolute monster from the get go for the MCU to continue to thrive. And Joker & Harley need to pure evil.
Anyone watch the extended Batman v Superman yet? I’m going to watch it tonight or tomorrow.

There is. It marginally improves it I believe but I can’t bring myself to watch it.

It’s about 30 minutes longer and it is supposed to do a better job explaining people motivations.
By all accounts it won’t fundamentally change your view of the movie. The Martha nonsense is still there.
I’m hoping it turns BvS from an annoying mess into a tolerable mess. A bad 2 * into an ok 3 *.

Suicide Squad is the sole reason to watch it. If that wasn’t coming out it’d remain on the long endless list of stuff that I might watch in theory but never actually will.
