Big cows and small people. Beef shorthorns are very tall cattle.
Crazy to think people managed to breed them into Belgian Blues.

Which daft cunt mounted PV panels on an asbestos roof?
Good spot.
Didn’t take you for a designer fashion accessory mongrel man
Anything for a quiet house
That wasn’t taken today, the weekendcwas it?. You see very little small sq bales around any more. I suppose the help is around any more to gather them.I remember spending loads of summers helping to gather them, driving the neighbours 135 with the buck rake till the dark decended and ner a light on the tractor.
6pm this evening. We had a lovely bit of sunshine in the past few hours. They were baled a few days back.
Had a sentimental twee conversation with a fella yesterday about the days of square bales. All neighbours involved, bottles of warm beer, sore hands & itchy eyes. Great days, you’d sleep on the buck rack after a day of it.
Square bales are gone the way of Parnells GAA club.
Labour intensive but wicked handy to work with afterwards.
Knots down and out
My auld lad is now the local square bale contractor almost by default as he is the last man with a baler.
He baled up 300 bales in small parcels of ground on Friday for lads in a neighbouring parish. All done with a Ford 4600 and New Holland baler from 1977 which was bought new. He gets a great buzz taking it out. He did almost 3000 bales last year and is on track to do so again.
Neighbour made 700 of them last weekend.
By god, that sounds like a dream day out.
Neighbour of ours buys round bales & turns them into square bales. He sells them to people who have a horse or two.
There was a lot of money to be made in this once upon a time for the fellas up wesht.
There’s a fella from rathkeale I know at that craic too ![]()
