The Official TFK Ireland 1912-1923 Thread

I must say I got slightly cross watching that. They took an accusation of false surrender on the part of the Republicans at face value while in Kilmichael accusations of false surrender by the Black and Tans are fought tooth and nail by the revisionist clique.

Yep

Clonmult was a fuck up. Staying in the one place for so long and the country side crawling with rats. They were asking for trouble.

Agreed. East Cork though. They hadn’t a fucking clue.

Tired cold hungry hunted

Been lots of fuck ups during, before and since, brave men all

Who put that theory forward? I watched it all and don’t remember hearing that,

That’s from here

What do you mean?

I didn’t hear any mention of a false surrender last night, was it put forward here?

The little memorial at Clonmult looks brilliant though, I’ll have to pay a visit sometime

It was on the 6.1 news.

I saw the news last night, that’s why I watched Nationwide, it was just a shortened version of the nationwide report, I heard no mention of a false surrender, do you remember who made that claim?

Some chap with a plummy voice.

The history professor? He said nothing of the sort

I checked it there on the news. You are correct. He said the British alleged that they tried to escape rather than there being a false surrender. I’m still vexed but I was wrong.

Fair play,
You probably know that there has been allegations made about a false surrender but it wasn’t mentioned on RTÉ last night

I didn’t actually. I wasn’t really familiar with Clonmult.

I’m watching 1916 here on PBS - Liam Neeson is on commentary with the media shy Diarmuid Ferriter on analysis.
That comment that’s a favourite with many here that 2 drunkards with hurls defended the Castle for centuries is absolutely correct, there were 6 soldiers attached to it so working 3 shifts it’s likely that 2 lads held the fort for 700 years.

Might be of interest to TFK historians

This series is brilliant. The latest one is limerick centred.
