Discredited I think is the word you are looking for here.

Not at all, there’s a few disputed episodes in there is all, as with any book from that period,

A little more than disputed…

I’m unable to open whatever that is.
It’s a very good read to somebody who is interested in @Arthur’s post, some of it is hotly disputed I know because one of the interviewees had a reputation for exageration.
But Jesus Christ, which of those first hand accounts of the WOI or Civil war can you believe in full, they’re all bullshitters to an extent.
But as I said, I can’t read what you posted, so what’s the gist of it?

You’ll need more truth here Juhy, this version isn’t working

That’s a scathing review from John.

He tears apart the authors sources and more or less said the author made it up. Borgonovo is an expert on that era, as good as there is in the country, and sound out. If he’s sticking the boot in I’d listen.

But but the Sunday Independent said it’s a great book.

I read it wrong initially when he posted it, I thought it was a book on Cork modern day hurling.

Tears him apart as a historian. Very selective in his use of sources. Aside from the unreliable witness you referenced, he lists a few things. Unsupported sources as a mainstay of his theory, even when they are not mentioned in any other contemporary source. Cherry picking sources to suit his argument rather than forming a theory based on evidence. Tears him apart as a historian basically and casts him as a hobbyist with an agenda. He’d be a top top poster here really.

A very dangerous man.

Thanks, it’s a good book, reads very well. I read it when it came out, I may have been studying at the time, there was a lot of controversy about Peter Hart in history circles around then as well.
I suspect the reviews would have been kinder if he had catalogued atrocities by the bad guys but that’s how it is,
Most of it is probably indisputable,
I’d take all of those memoirs with a pinch of salt in any case,

But I’ll do my research before I praise any more history books

You’re just sorry you can’t take the like back :flushed::grinning:
