The Overrated Thread

One goal in six Champions’ League meetings with Liverpool. Defeat in an FA Cup Semi-Final. Outfoxed consistently by Benitez in knockout competition.

Grant and Hiddink didn’t have the same problem against more formidable Liverpool teams in '08 and '09.

Bullshit.

Bullshit.

You’re fucking kidding, right?

A team designed to nullify a superior, more skillful side. Got a few lucky goals.

You’re off your game fella.

croppy_boy has struggled to hide his anti-Italian racism in recent weeks, it would be far better to acknowledge his prejudices than making nonsensical justifications.

Ah he’s not that far off the mark though, is he?

To be clear, I wasn’t saying they were overrated I was saying that they were boring.

Afraid to really open up and take on the Brazilians and instead relying on killing the game with Mourinho-esque tactics.

FFS. One can only assume that CB and Sid are too young to remember Espana 82.

The Mourinhoesque tactic the Italians employed against the Brazilians was going down the other end of the field and scoring. They killed that game by winning 3-2. The killed the final by winning it 3-1. Oh and they killed the semi 2-0. 8 goals in the last three games of a World Cup.

Yes he is, more evidence below.

Sid has imploded like his beloved Barcelona side in the past couple of day, it’s not nice to see - please come back Sid. croppy_boy has exposed himself as an anti-Italian racist previously so his points are invalid.

:pint:

Fishing is also over rated. Good for the first few minutes but then it can get boring quickly.

Too young to remember it but not too young to have watched the match in its entirety on more than one occasion. Italy weren’t as negative as Mourinho’s teams against Brazil, but then again they weren’t a million miles off it when in front. which was most of the match. The difference was that they had to win and they could attack with the best when they needed to and were masters of the counter attack. It should probably have ended up 4-2 as they got a disallowed goal late on which to the best of my memory should have been allowed. That said they got two very soft goals resulting from Brazil’s shambolic defence.

The semi-final and final were a different kettle of fish to the Brazil game because they were playing against teams with a different style. They were deserving winners once they got past Brazil.

I’ve swatted away all comers on this thread like the flies they are. And don’t you know it.

This is somehow touted as one of the 10 best goals in English football over the past 20 years. Despite being no more than a decent move with an above average finish against a shit team team who went on to be relegated, it has somehow attained mythical status, mainly I’d guess because of Cantona throwing shapes afterwards and the laziness and lack of imagination of football “best of” list compilers.

Le Tissier alone has scored at least 30 goals which are comfortably better.

I can’t see that video but I assume it’s the Man U one where they wore those Green & Yellow shirts against Sheffield Utd?

I can’t see it either. Is it the one against Sunderland where he chips the keeper?
