What about that cracker against the Argies in the world cup

Zidane was only alright tbh. His stats don’t add up

Mbappe is already ahead of Zidane in the pantheon of French legends. He’s done about the same amount in the Champions League and much more in international tournaments.

Platini is ahead of Zidane too.

Platinis corruption of FIFA and UEFA puts his achievements at nought

This is nostalgia bias I reckon. How many games were people actually watching in those days? The main international tournaments, whatever Champions League game was shown, a UEFA Cup game if you were lucky and then the Premiership at the weekend and La Liga on Saturday and Sunday night. Football Italia too. All coverage dominated by the best teams.

There was shocking football and players stealing a living in those days too, it’s just they didn’t get noticed due to there being no social media posting about it and less coverage and availability to the consumer in general.

Also a big part of it is that we only remember the good parts of even the best games and players from those days as the passage of time heals all errors and defects. Plenty of the greats of those days had bad games too, they’re just forgotten about because after the game ended, people moved on. Now they slate a fella on Twitter and the likes for hours and up to days after.

It makes no difference to his reputation as an all time great player

No it doesn’t, it doesn’t affect them at all.

Greece won Euro 2004. We were clearly living in all time great era of football.

These days you just don’t get players of the calibre of that lad whose name I can’t remember.

True. The Dutch commentary for that goal was tremendous.

I said up to the mid 00s them winning the euros and liverpool winning the 05 ucl with the worst team ever was probably the end of it

The Brazil…don’t adjust your TV sets, the Brazil number 10 is pulling the strings tonight for a dominant West Ham.

Real Betis broke the world record for Denilson in the late nineties.

Liverpool won the greatest European final ever, mate.

Porto won the Champions League that year with a core of competent and brilliant portugeuse guys in their mid-twenties. They bait Monaco, you’ll hardly see a pairing like that again, Carvahlo and Deco don’t get to their mid twenties in Portugal today.

Thats your opinion. The damage he and blatter have done to the game in my mind leaves him with a very sullied reputation

His reputation is in tatters. Nothing redeemable about the man.

It’s always a pity that platini didn’t get the smack in the chops that battison got.

So his reputation as a player is altered by his actions after retiring :grinning::grinning:
