Plenty of room.
It’s akin to building a travelator from Ranelagh to Stephens Green. No additional value to anyone. Put the money into where it’s needed
Tenders issued for Metrolink. €7.9bn excluding VAT.
There’s places with ferries where there’s already a rail line near or close by. It depends really - as an express service they can be useful, particularly if it goes to somewhere else in the city centre. There’s probably limited utility in Dublin because of the specific route for the DART.
There’s room at the moment. Some of that will be eaten up by the amount of development going on from Shankill to Greystones and even down to Wicklow. Some of it will also be eaten up as the Metrolink and DART West/South West connections in the city centre drives more passengers who live near the line at the moment but choose the bus or Luas as they can get to St Stephen’s Green or whatever easier.
Northside DARTs are full often, mostly because of catchment. If they had just built the Westland Row to Kingstown line 1km further inland on the southside it probably would have double the existing passengers….they weren’t to know tbf.
Looking forward to seeing shovels in the ground for this one. That’s, of course, once we see a shovel in the ground for the various Dart+ projects.
