The reputation and general public behaviour of the defendant is surely going to have a massive influence here. Where the likes of paddy Jackson would have had a previously unblemished record in his behaviour and general demeanour going round the place the same definitely can’t be said for the bauld conor.

+1. I know that rugby lads get a bad rep for their behaviour at times but Paddy Jackson looked like a nice, respectable sort of fella (pre-2016). The mammies of Ireland would’ve been afraid of him getting broken up on the pitch and he was the last lad you’d expect to be in such trouble. I was genuinely shocked when he was barred from America for the Chicago game v NZ in 2016.

McGregor on the other hand is despised around Oireland. I only ever watched one of his fights (the fight v Aldo that lasted a few seconds in December 2015) with the lads in college one Sunday morning during exam week. Never bought into the hype around him and thought the fanboy element was strange from the get-go. Mick Konstantin must be feeling a pang of regret for writing that song “There’s only one Conor McGregor” before Floyd Mayweather knocked him out. The ultimate bandwagon. None of them even knew MMA existed until 2014. A teammate was actually dropped for a championship group match after staying up drinking when watching McGregor v Mayweather back in 2017.
