Thats my point, McWeeney had potential, but yet won 1 cap after being tossed to the AB’s. Different time, different era, etc, but the scenario stays the same. With som many games in the Intl game these days, we dont need to toss players to the lions anymore raw. Earls has great potential, but he has time on his side yet.
McWeeeney got converted to a winger on the back of the Lomu phenomenon. He was big and quick but he simply wasn’t good enough as a winger to survive at the top level - played with Connacht for a good while though. I never liked the lad but that was just a random dislike.
WBY - you make a good comparison between Fitzgerald’s experience in the centre versus Bowe’s but the main advantage that Fitz has is that all he has this experience playing alongside BOD. So the defensive system has been tried and tested with Leinster and in one game with Ireland - it’s not established or proven by any means but nobody has torn it to shreds yet.
Bowe has some merit as a centre but he hasn’t played there for Ireland, hasn’t played in a partnership with anyone else in the squad. And just as importantly, he’s in great form on the wing where he’s playing very intelligently. Don’t see the merit in disrupting that.
Dan as a Munster stalwart I’m amazed at your disrespect of Horgan, surely the comparison is more Focus RS vs Aston Martin? Anyway as I’ve said already I’m nervous with regard to Luke, in some ways I think he’s a lot like D’Arcy, who was supposedly the answer to all our prayers as a young lad but who took a good while to get there.
Declan will tell us all very soon anyway.
WBY
Just curious, is Trimble completely out of the question as a centre now?
Trimble: honest but limited I’d say

A Munster stalwart maybe but I hope I am not one eyed enough to realise that Horgan was a lucky player who was in teh right place at the right time. He was able to slot perfectly into Kidneys vision of Munster at the time as a solid dependable winger who got on the end of a lot of moves and scored plenty tries.
Cant remember too many good ones he scored though, or created himself for that matter.
Not a model pro by any means either. Dont wish him any ill wil but just was never a fan of his. A poor mans John Kelly (read into that what you want!!!)
Trimble is the Kevin Maggs of the 00’s. Sometimes can’t believe how similar the two are when you compare them!
Was God Maggs best friend also?
And a bit of respect please for Kev, he was a solid aul soldier who done a job and didnt shirk a tackle, nothing wrong with that.
Maggys was a gutsy player alright, good servant to ireland.
Trimble is a class above him alright but seems to have lost his way big time

I’d say Trimble is the same. Wouldnt shirk a tackle and would do a solid job but nothing spectacular about him. Crash ball up the middle and both have spent some time playing on the wing as well.
Trimbles been fucked around too much, shoulda been left in the centre imo. He’s got more about him than Maggs though.
To be honest, Ulster isn’t the best place for any player to develop these days given the constant changes up there. Shame really.

I don’t like the term ‘old firm’. But people who only attend Celtic Park for derby games would indeed by bandwagoners.

Jesus, thats mad. Strange to have 2 backrows on the bench as well. Looks like Geordan isn’t rated by Kidney either. No place for Horgan.
