@GeoffreyBoycott is there precedent on modern times for a player being a lion without being a capped international? James Davies would be a far better option than Haskell surely

What about John Bentley, wasn’t he only capped in league before 97?

I’m almost certain Bentley was a capped union international before he went to league in first place.

The ref is from the same country as one of the teams. :grinning:

And getting emptier . To be fair there was a decent crowd there .

Nigel Melville, who had not yet been capped by England, replaced Terry Holmes who was injured in the first test.
Melville was injured himself in his second match and was replaced by Steve Smith.
