The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

The gaa could learn a lot from rugby from rugby.

If croke park got their hands on the six nations they’d play a six nations league and then play another league called the championship where everyone plays each other again before 4 of the 6 teams advance to semi finals.

Less is more sometimes.

My 2 cent
The Oirish are obsessed with the Hoineken cup
The Welsh are obsessed with the National team
Thats the difference

History had its eyes on France.

Margins were very fine this year. It wasn’t a year which merited a Grand Slam win so the table worked out probably fair enough in the end. Ireland and Scotland will have most regrets as both will feel could have beaten Wales without sending off.

Grand slam 18

How good I forget being in leopardstown watching the French game!

Because the Welsh clubs are absolute shite

Regions are shit. Pro game killed the club game

We beat Wales 8 times from 10 in the 00’s but they won 2 grand slams to our 1. We seem to be steady all the time while they fluctuate but have higher peaks than us.

Yeah have pulled few grand slams out of nowhere. With players available should have had more. Bizarre they can’t pull the club game into shape

Bizzare obsession with being in an Anglo Welsh league as well. They would be the bottom sides in it… Scarlets decent but inconsistent

I make it 7-3 between 2000-09. Wales won in 2000, 2005 and 2008. In the decade 2010-19 the score was 5-5 on the Championship and it’s 1-1 in this decade.

Yeah they think it will bring in the crowds. The guys in the pro game there absolutely miss the point. The Welsh rugby public have no affiliation to the regions. They are loyal to their clubs. Its very much like the gaa here. The community is often based around the rugby club in Wales and that has been stripped away by professionalism. We are about 10 years behind that as munster and leinster have been successful

I found a few articles on the decline of welsh clubs. Its frightening whats happening over there

Yeah. And not even for the benefit of a strong pro game

Yeah just thought of Wales beating us in 2000 after. I was mistakenly counting from 2001-2010. We’ve actually won more games in the championship over the last 2 years than Wales but they take the title while Andy Farrell is still yet to finish higher than 3rd.

Leinster having the better of the early exchanges
