If Ireland get to host the 2023 World cup, what are the odds of Schmidt staying on?

I’d say he’s raging. He’ll be heading off at the end of this season I’d imagine, new contract or not. Turned down €750k a year to stay apparently. I’d be feeling pissed too.

#sold a pup

Bristol I ask ya.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. I’d say there’ll be more than a few of the Connacht players sneering at him today but that’s professional sport I suppose.

Ridiculous move from Lam. They will be in the Championship with no guarantee of coming out of it.

Fuck Aki. He signed the contract. He will be going nowhere.

What’s Aki’s beef?

IRFU be looking for the full value of his contract to let him leave. Wont happen. He signed it. Doubt it was a condition that Lam stayed. Too bad Bundee. Works the opposite way far too often to have sympathy for the players in this situation.

assume he was sold a long term vision of connacht by Pat Lam, which didnt involve Lam tipping off to UK 12 months later.

In fairness, Connacht are a backwater team playing at a dog track in a shit makey uppie league that nobody gives a monkeys about. As soon as Lam got the first chance to hightail it out of there he was always going to go.

Which is why he has every right to be pissed off imo. Being marooned in Connacht is a fate no man should be sentenced to.

Lam was fired from his previous role so he well knows the precarious nature of professional sport. He came, saw and is leaving the place in a far better position than when he came. Cant ask for more from an employee than that.

Very disappointed at the lack of ambition he showed with next move though.

Well it was hardly a term of the contract that Lam stayed but I’d imagine he was a big part of it seen as Lam is the reason Aki is there in the first place. If I was in Aki’s position I’d be very fucking pissed off having turned down doubling his wages to stay and be part of the “Connacht project” only for his mentor to fuck off 2 months later to fucking Bristol.

As I said, that’s professional sport, loyalty means nothing but the widespread feeling amongst Connacht fans this morning is not warm and fuzzy towards Lam. You’d say something if he was getting €1m a year to go to Toulon or somewhere like that but fucking Bristol.

No idea. Suppose depends how we go at the next one. I doubt it really though. Would be three world cups in the role. Wouldn’t work I dont think. Lot depends on his family I guess, and situation with the All Blacks job

Why? As you allude to above, his job is precarious, and his industry fickle.
Grab the cash and run.
Too fucking right.

Id say he is getting a ball of cash in Bristol. they have loads of money.

Players jump ship all the time despite what they may or may not tell their coaches. He decided to stay because he was made a big offer in Connacht and he weighed it up and thought it suited him best. Lam was one factor only. All well and good earning 750 k a year in france, but if you’re crocked after 2 seasons its not much good to you vs being managed in the IRFU system and playing half the number of games and adding several seasons to your career. The flogging they get in France is no joke.

you must have picked me up wrong. I have no issue with him leaving (apart from being disappointed for Connacht).

My issue is his move to Bristol. He could have had a selection of better clubs. He will be dropping into the 2nd tier in England. Not much ambition.

None of the Irish fellas get injured which is great.
