The School, College & University Competitions Thread (another thread gone west)

I hadnā€™t seen anyone mention Cashel as dark horses this year

They have a couple of good lads off the Tipp U17 winning team.

In particular Adam Daly who was Tippā€™s best player this year in my opinion.

Big win for them

Not drawing from a huge amount of clubs either

My auld lad was at the Cashel v Flannans game.

Pitch in Cappamore was brutal with it not lined correctly.

Ben Currivan scored 4 goals for Cashel Which was the winning of it. Cashel missed a load of frees throughout the game compared to Flannans where Whelan was excellent on them except missing one with a minute left.

Very even game but this win likely to prove enough for Cashel with ASR the favourites to top the group.

@peddlerscross would be the best man to do a ranking of the best Harty Cup venues. Kilfinane would be my own personal favourite.

Tipp town is up there but too near Cashel for this game.

Nenagh might have been a more suitable pitch for this.

The only set of rankings itā€™s ever ā€œup thereā€ in

Number 3 with no club listed. Must be doing an Eamonn Fennell on it. Although Iā€™ve seen schools players in football who donā€™t play with a club but become key players on teams. Much trickier to achieve in hurling though.

Emly by a distance

He is Rosegreen originally but got a gentlemanā€™s agreement to play with his fathers club (Boherlahen) in 2021 when they didnā€™t have an u19 team.

His transfer request was declined at the start of the year so sat the year out. Incidentally he was also good today. Has an older brother who is just as useful.

A boost for Boherlahen and massive loss for Rosegreen who already lose players to Cashel as it is.

Mitchelstown wasnā€™t a bad spot for a game either

I never heard of Rosegreen?

Feenagh was the place in my day and for many years afterwards, not used much now?

As @Bod95 said Emly is and always will be the Gold standard.

The one shop village where the shopkeeper sees a Harty Cup match as both a blessing (extra revenue) and curse (loss of revenue due to robbing sweets) is the perfect venue for Harty fare.

Honourable mentions to Bansha, Ballyhea, Ballygiblon, Knocklong and Ballyporeen. That magical triangle where Tipp, Cork and Limerick intersect.

Of course bigger towns like Kilmallock, Clonmel, Tipp Town, Mitchelstown, Newport and Clonmel can also experience the magic of Schools GAA.

Is the hotrod racing still going in Rosegreen?

Lovely spot

@carryharry

Itā€™s hard to beat the atmosphere in The Ragg when the crowd are piled in for a
Harty Cup match on a wet Winterā€™s day and a flare up happens under the stand.
