The schools

Ju back in da gym bro?

I’m becoming quite solidly OIUTF, as my profile pic might suggest, but all this fucking fake science flying around about how unlikely and rare infections are in a school setting is starting to really annoy me. Every establishment whore of a “scientist” is at this now. They’re changing the scientific rationale for reopening from “we will reduce other infections elsewhere in the community to give space to open the schools” to “infections are just unlikely in schools anyway”.

If infections are just unlikely in a school setting anyway, then doesn’t that undermine the entire basis for the new restrictions, which was to reduce infections in the run up to the schools opening so that they’d be safe to open? Now we’re told that there are very few infections there anyway? And why were schools cancelled in the first place? Why was the Leaving Cert cancelled?

These fucking goons are doing permanent damage to the credibility of science with the general public.

Is it time to start burning a few books?

Guidance was given in our school today that face masks are to be encouraged but there is absolutely no need to stand your ground on the matter, so basically you educate them on the reasons why they should wear a mask, maybe remind them if they don’t have it on and leave it there.

when the schools reopen there will be lip service paid to all guidelines and no more in many cases, it’s not really possible to run a tight Covid compliant ship and that will become very obvious very quickly,
roll on Thursday when i get to see the little faces looking up at me in adoration. :expressionless:

That’s brand new advice though is it? Previously the instruction was for secondary school kids only to wear masks?

St Leo’s in Carlow had 150 kids in a hall this morning to say their prayers. The principal said it was a breach of guidance and it was a very important gathering for a Catholic school.

Big Phil could probably use that as a defence to Ursula

And nothing for the poor teachers.

We got ours today, nearly a week later than advised. In it, they specifically state that it is not recommended children Under 13 wear a mask. I dont know why or where they got that, but they put it on their school plan.

As an aside, there is zero plan if the school goes into lockdown again. Just wondering, do you, or anyone else on here, have any plan to go into action if schools close again? Ours was an utter shambles the last time so I fear the same thing will happen again, ie, absolutely nothing.

I would assume that most teachers who were previously unskilled in that area would have used their summer courses to upskill in the area of blended/online learning, whatever you want to call it.
I can’t comment, i can tell you that middle management in our school have been working flat out since late July to get us to where we are today, but being honest with you the quality of correspondence that goes home if it happens again is very much in the lap of each teacher.

I need to get a few weeks or months with them (brand new set of kids for me) so as i can plan if we do go into lockdown, if it was to happen after a week I’d be pissing against the wind not knowing them and their needs very well. I’m in a situation where I need to have individual programmes for a lot of my kids. Not really straightforward.

That was the Dept of Health guidance as at a few days ago. I mentioned it here last week… Hence my Q to BIATS a few posts up about the masks

The schools will be grand. Children will show the adults that the world won’t implode with a little normality. I’m hopeful it’s the first step on the road of getting back to normality

I have to admit that I have a bit of a sniffle now though, I probably need a fortnight off if I’m being honest

I’ll be exclusively blaming teachers for any incidents

This is where I have the biggest issue with an overall plan of action from the school. Its essentially being left up to individual teachers to decide how much or little they will do rather than a global school plan. I can safely tell you that your assumption of upskilling for our school, absolutely did not happen. They only started getting back to planning about 2, maybe 3 weeks ago at a push. One of the main changes they have made is that teachers have to be in school for 9am. Previously it was 9.15am. I had enquired about doing the hurling 365 in there in the mornings before school (wexford coaching initiative done by clubs through schools) and was told that no one would be available to be in at 8.30 to open up the school for it. If they can avoid doing anything extra at all, they will.

Is it an Ursuline convent ??
