The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

8-4 now, Perry looks very nervous here as the winning line approaches, another loose shot has let Selby in here in frame 13.

They are

Perry feeling the pressure big time. Youā€™d fear for him to be honest

Big pot from Joe. Chance here.

If this wasnā€™t The Crucible Iā€™d have no doubt heā€™d clear up. Can he handle the pressure though?

Heā€™s done very well here.

He has indeed, 9-4 up heading into the mid session interval, Selby needs a miracle.

Huge frame for Genteman Joe to win for 9-4. He was looking very tetchy and if Selby had got it to 8-5, Iā€™d have fancied Selby to win it.

On the other table the vile Graeme Dott leads Ali Carter 3-1.

Perry is in here and 48 points up, Selby on the brink.

Selby is out, a sensational upset at The Crucible.

Wowzer

He hasnā€™t had a very good season, though?

Just like at Lakeside, thereā€™s a rich tradition of defending champions being dumped out on the opening day at the Crucible.

Stuart Bingham beating Stephen Hendry in 2000 is my favourite example.

Thatā€™s the crucible for you

Graham Dott playing some really nice snooker

He didnā€™t have a good season by his standards but just won the China Open so was bang in form. Very puzzling performance.

Tony Knowles hammering defending champion Steve Davis 10-1 in the opening round in 1982 is surely the biggest shock defeat for a defending champion ever.

2006 Champion and 2004 & 2010 beaten finalist Graeme Dott leading 2008 & 2012 beaten finalist Ali Carter 4-2. Graeme looking good here in frame 7 as well. Heā€™s a wonderful match player. A proper snooker player.

Another great tournament player
