The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

9-5 milkins robertson missing a lot.

It’s been a very poor standard in the tournament so far. Robertson 5-9 down and on the brink of becoming the 5th former champion to be eliminated in Round 1. Highest break of 52 from a former champion in 14 frames is pitiful.

robertson misses again milkins wins 10 -5 barring miracles!

4-3 now to trump in his match

Cracking match here with Higgins and oh know. Oh know missed last black when going for 147.

Higgins 9-7 up with a great chance here to put this to bed.

Higgins is through. Nice Crucible debut by the Thai but it’s the wizard who advances to round 2 and a date with Jack Lisowski.

Younger players seem to be finding it a lot harder to establish themselves these days. Of the 14 places filled in the last 16 so far, there’s five players over 40, Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Gentleman Joe Perry and Robert Milkins. Barry Hawkins is 39, Ali Carter is 38, Ricky Walden is 35 and Ding Junhui, Mark Allen and Jamie Jones are in their early 30’s. Just three in their 20’s through so far, Judd Trump likely to be the fourth, he’s leading Chris Wakelin 6-3. In the other first round match still to be decided, Ryan Day is leading Anthony McGill 4-2. Day is 38.

Stephen Hendry won his 7th and last world title when he was 30, Steve Davis won his 6th and last world title when he was 31 and Jimmy White lost his 6th and most recent final on his 32nd birthday.

Day takes a 5-3 lead over McGill after a long scrappy frame. McGill needed a snooker with just pink and black left on the table, he got it but then missed the black, a real sickener.

Last frame of the session coming up.

What a shot it was to place that snooker, but he’ll be sick he missed that black.
This tournament may not be high on quality but it is intriguing all the same.

Day ends session 6-3 ahead. Very impressive frame from him considering his position hasn’t been great at times, made some really good pots to build a break of 145.:clap:

Brilliant 145 break from Ryan Day in the final frame of the evening. Highest break of the tournament so far.

8-6 to Day soon to be 8-7

4-2 for allen at the moment

8 all now in day match

and it should be 4 all now in allen match-- its actually 5-3 to allen perry missed the pink to win…

mcgill wins 10-8 after day tries a mad double on the black and misses and leaves it hanging.

Wakelin pinches frame 11 after Trump missed the final black and now trails 7-4.

Barry Hawkins has taken the opening 3 frames in his second round game against Lyu Haotian.

Trump misses an easy pink and Wakelin steps in and pinches another frame, it’s 8-6 to Trump, he’s making hard work of this.

Hawkins is 4-1 up on the other table.

Stick a fork in judd. His head is melted.

Trump is imploding here.

8all unreal…
