The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

Ding has turned it around this afternoon. Won 7 of the 8 frames and is now 9-7 ahead.

Ronnie 9-7 ahead of Ali Carter.

Ricky Walden looks in fine fettle and leads Milkins 9-3, Bingham leads Brian Davis 6-5 on the other table in a game that looks like it will go right to the wire.

Bingham leads Davis 10-8 while Ding is 10-7 ahead of King on the other table.

Mark Davis levels up at 10-10 and he’ll be the happier player at the mid-session interval. King has pulled one back in what has turned into a dour battle with Ding and is 10-8 down but in amongst the balls with a good chance to take this frame.

Wins for Ding and Bing but a loss for King.

O’Sullivan impressed in the latter stages to see off Carter 13-8, he’ll take some stopping. Ricky Walden saw off a determined comeback from Robert Milkins 13-11 to book a 1/4 date with young Welsh dark horse Michael White.

1/4 final draw

O’Sullivan V Bingham
Murphy V Trump
Walden V White
Ding V Hawkins

Hawkins and Ding tied at 2-2 at the mid-session interval. Hawkins started off well taking the first two frames before a loose safety shot allowed Ding in to make a frame winning clearance. Ding took the next to level it up and this looks like it could be a very tight encounter.

Murphy leads Trump 3-1 on the other table.

Hawkins leads Ding 5-3 and Murphy rather surprisingly leads Trump 6-2. O’Sullivan has raced out to 4-0 lead over Bingham while Walden is also 4-0 up over a very nervous looking White.

Ronnie 5-0 up now.

6th frame. Bingham played an excellent safety shot, snookering Ronnie on all reds. Ronnie misses twice and leaves a red on the second time. Bingham misses the red, sticks another red up for Ronnie who is currently on a 51 break.

Century for O’Sullivan.

He’s in the zone. Unstoppable in this form.

Trump has staged a comeback from 6-2 down and 8-3 down to 8-7.

One more frame left this evening.

On the other table Hawkins leads Ding 8-5.

Barry Hawkins played some great snooker this morning and leads Ding 12-7 needing only one more to clinch a berth in the semis. An outrageous fluke on the pink in the final frame suggests everything is going his way.

O’Sullivan continues his romp over Bingham and has coasted to a 11-1 lead.

Murphy and Trump locked at 10-10 at the mid session interval while Walden leads White 9-3 on the other table.

Looks like either Walden or Hawkins will be in the final.

I’d imagine Hawkins will start off big fav for the semi. He’s been superb in this tournament so far.

Ding and Selby. Two big scalps.

Big frame there in the Trump Murphy match.

Murphy led 62-0 with a 62 break. Trump came back with a break of his own and some good safety/snooker play to take the frame.

Murphy 10-11 Trump

Tremendous stuff between Murphy and Trump here.

Anyone’s frame.

Murphy takes it on the black!

11-11

Trump shows his class there, what a magnificent break that was. 12-11.

Walden leads 10-6 in his match going into the final session winning the crucial last frame to stop White’s charge.
