The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

How did seedlings differ in that match?

Does not score heavy enough when in the balls. Excellent safety and tactical player though.

Has 44 centuries coming into tournament. In the past maybe yeah but stats tell a different story this year.

Dott and Bingham were hardly prolific when they won. Long format suits grinders.

Stats can be misleading but accept your point. He deffo is improving but still think his scoring is his weakness. Very strong in all other aspects.

Bingham has always been very good break builder. Dott is a good comparison. Just think if he meets judd or higgins, they will score heavier.

I like him but his break building is just not at the elite level. He has not won a ranking event afaik. The longer format of the worlds does suit his game as he is selby lite.

Fu was the 11th seed, Lyu is the world #68.

He won the Shanghai Masters in 2015.

He’s been playing really well lately and nobody is going to want to play him. His section of the draw has really opened up with Selby getting dumped out.

I really think this is Trump’s time. Ronnie winning is probably a good thing as Judd would have gone fav without potting a ball.

Ive a very decent bet on him and am thinking of going in again.

Higgins hardly has the physical conditioning to win this at nearly 43. He wilted badly in the 2nd day of last years final against Selby after getting himself into a strong position.

Agree broadly with that but wilting in a final against selby is not a good barometer.

Trump certainly has the game to win it and the top half of the draw looks weaker than the bottom. Good luck with the bet.

Mark Allen leads 7-4 against Liam Highfield, Highfield had a great chance in the last frame to make it 6-5 but missed a tricky brown and Allen mopped up.

Number 6 seed Barry Hawkins has shared the opening 2 frames with Stuart Carrington on the other table.

Lucky for Allen that football jerseys are banned this year - that chap in the Coventry jersey would have been giving it big licks for Highfield.

Allen wins 10-5 to set up a date with Gentleman Joe Perry in round 2.

Hawkins leads Carrington 4-1 on the other table.

Murphy leads Jones 8-5 while Xiao Guodong leads Ding 2-1 in the early stages.

Jones has won 3 in a row, it’s 8-8 now. Ding leads 3-2 on the other table.

Murphy and Jones are both falling apart here.

Murphy is rattled

Final frame. Two bad early misses from both players but Jones is in now on a break of 42 and with the balls spread will win this barring a big fuck up (which there’s every possibility of).
