Fair play…how hard did he have to work for it over the years?
Hit lucky street, odd trip to
but nothing too taxing, his missus worked for Facebook and cashed in on options and basically retired about 15 years ago when their kids were young, all about the breaks.
Flutter shares still on the slide, even after Jacksons departure.
Hiring from within isn’t exactly going to reverse the market slide
Wow. Run me through why I shouldn’t buy a load of this. Still massively profitable?
Never catch a falling knife!
The downside I see with these shares is that the gambling industry isn’t exactly popular. It’s an easy target for governments looking to bring in higher taxes, tighter regulation, or hefty fines.
Flutter, or Paddy Power as most of us still know them, made an awful lot of money from a business model that, in my opinion, relied too heavily on people with serious gambling addictions. For years, there wasn’t enough scrutiny, and plenty of people lost money they simply couldn’t afford because proper affordability and due diligence checks weren’t carried out.
There’s every chance, particularly in the United States, that if that approach continues, the company could face major group litigation. If that happened, the financial consequences could be enormous, and a lot of the profits they’ve made could end up disappearing in settlements or damages.
So, for me anyway, it’s not a share I’d be rushing to invest in. That’s just my own opinion, but I’d see it as a fairly risky proposition.
Good post.
It’s definitely a high risk investment. I’m in for a good few shares at around $100 a share. I don’t think it’s going to turn around in the short term but it’s a stock I could see going gangbusters in 10-20yrs time. You’d have to stomach the current bad share price first which seems likely to get worse. The prediction markets stole a march on them. They are acting illegal offering essentially betting products in states where it is not yet legal, but the Trumps are in bed with the prediction market outfits so it’s allowed. They need tighter regulation and brought to heel but that only happens after Trump leaves office at the earliest. I thought they would get a better bounce off Jackson’s departure but problem is I don’t think this guy is necessarily an upgrade, though admittedly you probably need to know the industry so there’s a shortage of sexy names to take over. I’m going to hold my stock but for sure it is not for the faint hearted in the short-medium term.
That’s the thing - if Democrats get in I could see the whole Polymarket/Fan Duel markets being totally banned and who knows what that will do to the Flutter model. I see they were throwing huge money on promos in US to get market share
Think they’ve billions in debt Flutter. They’ve thrown the kitchen sink at America and they’ve invested so much they’re pot committed now. They’d a fine little business going for themselves across the rest of the world. No one could have seen the prediction markets rise and success in fairness.
That fan duel they bought dwarves their other revenue so they kinda have to go all in in the US
They could have developed betfair to take on poly market in the punter v punter game but I think it’s current design and rules from other markets is too restrictive to allow the crazy horse trading that has gone on in Polymarket
You need to plough in again when it drops more so
I wouldn’t be banking on it for the pension. Especially if they have a lot of debt.
I predicted it. Got on at 4/1
Me neither but I don’t have a strong view against it aside from the regulation risk
I can see it/gambling going the way of the cigarettes. The internet and easy access to gambling 24/7 has exponentially increased the problem.
Lads, they have zero USP
They’re fucked as they overpaid for FD
