The Stock Market Flutter Thread

The boss of Heineken got the high jump last week.

Silver was at $25 an ounce last April, it’s now $106 an ounce, up 12% today alone.
It’s the modern day Dutch tulip.

I see the famous Gary fletcher was saying to buy it in December.

Agree with this, they are a strong buy at the moment. Alcohol and drinking pints is going to come roaring back with a bang. What platform did you use to buy them? I’d a DeGiro account opened but they closed me due to inactivity, are they still the cheapest to use?

Lads getting their advice from investor Finn?

I used Trade Republic but also have DeGiro. Lots of platforms these days

Why would you think that?

It’s a declining business now. People go out less and sup at home watching Netflix etc.

That would be my take on it also. All the trends pointing to low and no alcohol drinks. Will always be fellas looking for a few pints…but not in the volume or frequency of old

In ten years time it’ll be only a few misfortunes swamping pints.

A few decades ago the average French adult drank 4 glasses of wine a day, that’s now down to 1 glass a day. Given that average includes all the old timers still drinking 4 glasses a day, young people are drinking fuck all.

I don’t mean the pubs are going to boom again, although that’s possible in the long term as people will place more of a premium on experiences when it’s all ai and robots in their lives. In the short and medium term the pubs aren’t going to see a boom. I see this decline in alcohol as being generational or cyclical at the moment, it might take another generation or two but it’ll come back strong again. People have been drinking alcohol for centuries they aren’t going to suddenly stop. With regards to Diageo they also sell a significant amount of alcohol for home consumption, so just because the pubs are struggling it doesn’t mean Diageo as a whole are struggling.

Excessive alcohol consumption ism one of the big causes of cancer in Ireland, its a mugs game

I’m not here to judge

Do you know what it says there from investor Finn regarding Diageo? It’s behind businessposts paywall. Anyone have a sub that can post it?

Habits have changed aswell, people used to drink out of boredom, young lads now are into the gym or else stare at phones for 24 hours a day, wanking themslves into brain dead zombies

Weed is replacing alcohol in America, there are more people consuming weed now daily than alcohol, even though recreational weed is only legal in half the states.
