Dreadful defeat for Zverev. Tsonga beaten as well. That bottom half of the draw is fairly threadbare.

Sam Querrey [17] –v- Radu Albot
Mischa Zverev [23] –v- John Isner [10]
Thomas Fabbiano –v- Paolo Lorenzi
Kevin Anderson –v- Borna Coric

Denis Shapovalov –v- Kyle Edmund
Nicolas Mahut –v- Pablo Carreno Busta [12]
Lucas Pouille [16] –v- Mikhail Kukushkin
Diego Schwartzman [29] –v- Marin Cilic [5]

You would expect Cilic to come through there. Shapovalov is one to watch, he has had a couple of big scalps that last few weeks since he took the eye out of the umpire in the Davis Cup.

Zverev looks to have shot his load early in winning the couple of ATP 1000’s before the US Open.

Del Porto at 25s for me.

I would have said that is a good bet but he is in the same half of the draw as Nadal and Federer. If he was in the other half then it would be a great bet. If all matches go to plan then it will be a quarter final of Del Potro vs Federer.

Cilic must be nailed on to make final? He’s 7/1 so worth an ew bet imo

Federer in a bit of trouble here. Serving to stay in the third set. Youzhny is not missing anything and Federer struggling to get the ball back.

Tommy the Bird Man and Baby Fed both beaten in Nadal’s quarter of the draw.

Outside of Federer, Nadal or Cilic you can’t really see many genuine slam contenders there but it’s more intriguing that both Nadal and Federer are not inspiring great confidence now. R3 and R4 have been where Nadal has come unstuck in recent years. Draw has opened nicely for him now.

Federer was struggling with the back injury against Youzhny last night. He only won because Youzhny was cramping up badly from late in the fourth set. Federer is not going to win this. Haven’t seen either of Nadal’s matches. Draw has opened up nicely for Nadal with Berdych his most likely 4th round opponent losing last night and Dmitrov is most likely quarter final opponent losing as well.

Surprised Fed even bothered with this to be honest

Here’s the third round draw. There’s some load of dross in it. Five of the world’s Top 10 pulled out beforehand - Sir Andy, Djokovic, Stan, Raonic and Nishikori. 14 of the 32 seeds that were left haven’t made it to the last 32, including Alex Zverev, Tsonga, Dimitrov, Kyrgios, Sock and Berdych from the Top 16. Its more like an Australian Open field up to about 20 years ago before players started to take Melbourne seriously. Tournament badly needs a Federer v Nadal match up in the semi final. Cilic has the bottom half completely to himself. Goffin, Monfils, Thiem and Del Potro the pick of the rest are all in the top half.

Rafael Nadal (1) –v- Leonardo Mayer
Viktor Troicki –v- Alexandr Dolgopolov
David Goffin [9] -v- Gael Monfils [18]
Damir Dzumhur –v- Andrey Rublev

Roger Federer [3] –v- Feliciano Lopez [31]
Philip Kohlschreiber [33] –v- John Millman
Roberto Bautista Agut [11] –v- Juan Martin del Potro [24]
Adrian Mannarino [30] –v- Dominic Thiem [6]

Sam Querrey [17] –v- Radu Albot
Mischa Zverev [23] –v- John Isner [10]
Thomas Fabbiano –v- Paolo Lorenzi
Kevin Anderson –v- Borna Coric

Denis Shapovalov –v- Kyle Edmund
Nicolas Mahut –v- Pablo Carreno Busta [12]
Lucas Pouille [16] –v- Mikhail Kukushkin
Diego Schwartzman [29] –v- Marin Cilic [5]

Reasonable chance of an American semi finalist there. First since Roddick I presume

Some outburst by Wozniacki when she was knocked out of the competition the other night.

Rory had a lucky escape

So did she

Maria is box office. This one was briefly famous for being engaged to, then jilted by a cunt. That’s the real difference here.

Cilic gone. Some no name could make a name for himself here.

Leonardo Mayer has taken the first set tie breaker against Nadal.

This is threatening to be the least enticing second week of a grand slam in history

Break points Mayer
