I dont think it will. Its the humidity that is the killer and we just dont get that here.

I’ve been in Dunmore a good bit over the years but have never been in there. It doesn’t look that inviting from the main road. But expensive looking in fact. How much for a pint in there?

The Haven? Family run hotel. Very welcoming. Decent grub all day and a grand little bar. Used to have shades of Fawlty Towers but very well run now. Only issue might be that there’d be a wedding that would have booked the place out.
Pint is 6.30. 5.90 in Powers and 6.10 in the Spinnaker. Close to 7 in the Strand but the Strand caters mainly to Dubs who are immune to pricing.
The Haven was originally the summer residence of the Malcolmson family who had a huge cotton mill in Portlaw and laid out Portlaw in its unique radial pattern. They donated the woods, the park and the fishermen’s hall to the town of Dunmore. Quakers, they were.

I have fond memories of being asked to leave very politely when myself and two other bucks did our damndest to gate crash a wedding in pursuit of more drink after a heavy session in the spinnaker. Staff were very nice when we actually warranted a boot in the hole😂

My uncle actually called it back in the spring that this summer would break all records. He was around back in the summer of 76 which had a bit in common with what we are seeing now. 1995 obviously as well. But those years and maybe a couple of others had something in common in his head and that was the nesting habits of the Jackdaws. This year as opposed to others they made their nests in the cavity blocks of his cowshed. Usually they would do it on chimney tops which would be too hot for them this summer.

Over training tonight, may as well have been pucking balls down the beach. A few clumps of dead grass here and there and plumes of dust rising all over the shop. Still no rain forecast for the forseeable; we’re well used to unplayable pitches in the depths of winter and spring, but I wonder if we’re going to hit a summer variant shortly. I remember in 2018 we had a few intercounty games played on orange pitches alright but this is something else.
