Dump badly exposed here.
Looks very dry there
THE exceptional flooding along the River Shannon requires ESB to increase the amount of water that must be released at Parteen Weir.
The flood levels are the highest ever recorded on the river, and the discharge levels have been growing in recent days but the release of higher volumes of water downstream will become unavoidable later today.
Localised downstream areas can expect higher flood levels as a result.
The Inter-agency group comprising the Mid-West Authorities (Clare County Council, Limerick City Council, Limerick County Council and North Tipperary County Council, ESB and the emergency services ) continue to manage the situation.
There is massive controversy coming down our way, apparently there wasn’t the need for the dam release at the time it was released and they could have saved millions of suros, jobs and businesses.
Somebody should go to jail if this turns out to be true.

The ESB are under serious pressure with this one alright. It’s also in one of todays paper that worries about the storage capacity at those dams was expressed as far back as 2001:
Yet a key ESB report in 2001 warned that the reservoirs at Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid were too small to cope with extreme water volumes.
The report – from 2001 – said that although there would be more flooding on the River Lee if the dams were not in place, the “relatively small size” of the reservoirs meant the amount of flood alleviation was reduced for extreme weather events.
“Consequently a false sense of security may occur,” it warned.
Raining hard here in Limerick now and looks like it’ll be down for the day. The ESB have said they are not releasing anymore water from the dams so that should ease the pressure a bit for today.
Lashing down here in Cork and dark too. Savage winds to boot. Wouldn’t but a dog out in it
No problems up here in the nations capital.
Well drained, lights on, pubs open and hookers out and about.
Yours etc,
GSH.

Any penalty points given out today GSH?
Its rough alright.
Storm a brewing out wesht. We’ve escaped the worst of it so far in Galway but that may change now by the looks of things outside. The south and east of the county, the hurling heartlands, have been hit bad. Gods is proclaiming his vengance it seems over those responsible for this years mess of a county championship.
There’s great drying out there today…
It’s absolutely bucketing down here. Worst rain so far.
The fucking wind is insane this morning.

As flano said, the wind is outrageous here in the capital, the drying is savage.
