There’s serious problems with that. Near the sea, the land rises to 90ft and further inland near the lough it drops back down. They’d nearly have to tunnel it.

Fuck the fisheries the cunts no chance any of their houses being under water I suppose

Yeah, there is a serious rise but you should see the flow of water now that they have freed up that bridge. Its all linked underground.

They have also been drilling empty underground caverns up near Gort in the hope that surface water will seep in there.

That’s great stuff by the locals.

Its the water table, impossible to channel it out almost, youd need a crater sized sinkhole around kiltartan for it to drain into. Peoples lives are ruined, houses they’ve lived in for hundreds of years might have to be abandoned lest it happen again. Which it undoubtedly will with climate change.

At least they are not moaning about it.

In honesty there are a few people who should have moved on after the 1995 floods and didnt. They were flooded early this month.

However there are houses flooding now that have never seen water before. One house in Raheen outside Gort is nearly 200 years old and has flooded for the first time.

That’s what’s frightening about all this.

terrifying, at least they might get an insurance payout, but won’t get subsequent cover, there’s other people who will be stranded with no insurance and an uninhabitable house. of course some houses should never have been given planning permission but thats a whole other scandal in galway.
