The Wire

Hard to believe McNulty is living in a castle in Glin now.

Wan of our own.

On my 2nd rewatching of the wire. I forget then remember every time I watch it how bad Aidan Gillen is in this. It’s astonishing that he has had the career he has had. He’s such a bad actor.

He’s wasn’t good, and looked even worse next to Reg E. Cathey who was a great actor.

But at the same he perfectly captures the vapid, soulless, Pete Buttegieg style Democrat that embodies the party post-Obama. I’d say that’s unintentional as it’s not how David Simon sees Democrats. But it only adds to the authenticity of the whole thing.

I actually thought it was genuinely his best work. Anything else I’ve seen him in he seems to be cartoonishly over-the-top or he does 3 different accents in a single sentence delivery. Carcetti didn’t really demand an actor of the calibur of Wood Harris or Michael K Williams ability either.

My brother has only really seen Gillen in The Wire and was saying to me that he was terrible in it.

I said to him that The Wire was probably the best I have seen him, the other performances being so bad.

Gillen was good in Love/Hate. His Northside Dublin accent wasn’t bad but he is from Drumcondra. He was shit in everything else. Acting is a funny aul game.

He was very good in queer as folk

He was. I forgot that

I can’t agree.

I would have done a better job.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor’s characterisation of Nigel ā€˜Nidge’ Delaney was utterly brilliant.

I knew lads that went on like him. Not drug lords obviously but not pillars of the community either. That sort of sneering tone and contemptuous facial expression. I thought it worked but everyone to their own.
