Probably.
I was chatting to a lad in his 30ās recently who is a recovering gambling addict.
A fuck of a thing.
A curse
No doubt itās a dangerous game, and thereās plenty of desperate stories. Itās a bit of craic when youāre down the boozer. I guess as the betting ads say, when the fun stops, stop, but sometimes it aināt that easy and things just get out of hand and lives can be ruined. Cāest la vie.
Thats why I like the affordability checks that they re supposed to be bringing in for online accounts. We all know the bookies are complete parasites.
Youāre doing a nawful lot of pontificating about something you dont care about
I mentioned it twice 36 hours apart ![]()
Must have touched some serious nerves
A bit rich coming from TFKs permanent broken record ![]()
The passing of the late Colm Murray was a terrible blow to the popularity of Cheltenham in Ireland. Colm was a great man to lionise the horses on the 6 o clock news as the nation was sitting down to its tea.
Thatās mad. I was only thinking of him just there.
Colm MMurraee as he would say himself
āBut first to Cheltenhamā
It was iconic.
What will the horses routine tonight be @Bandage in order to keep the nerves from overwhelming them?
Youāre a desperate man for touching nerves, would you not go easy on fellas?
All the bad old habits of this country are dying out. This is just another part of it.
@BruidheanChaorthainn ?? A middle aged man?? Sure heās still in short shorts.
Cheltenham Eve and he responding to posts from 13 months ago. Very odd behavior
Ah noā¦
Ok guys. Lets not go there
It really is. I like horse racing and have absolutely no axe to grind with it or itās followers but it definitely used to be way way bigger as far as I can see.
I think this was discussed here before but is it just the stage we are at in life or has general interest in it declined? If it has what would the possible reason for that be?
Iād look at horse racing fanatics with the same level of respect as I would pro-wrestling fanatics. Let them enjoy their Stone Cold Steve Austins and their Nina Carberrys.
I think satellite television followed by other tech advances (streams/apps etc etc) has resulted in certain sports/activities eating up less popular ones. Some things were staples on terrestrial television, had their own space to breathe without much competition & the initial audience they gained by default grew further organically as various personalities/storylines built in the public consciousness. But now lots of people wonāt be arsed watching these niche events because they can locate the football match they want online & arenāt restricted to rugby league on Grandstand or horse racing from Chepstow on Channel 4 before the Brookside omnibus.
