Things I learned today (Part 1)

Spot on.

Youā€™re forgetting former Raven and now Colts DE, Arthur Jones. Serious breeding in that family.

Iā€™ll add that to things I learned todayā€¦

Well after watching the JP effect on limerick Iā€™d rather he didnā€™t. We would just infight with better weapons.

That black people can get tan lines.

That there was 5 riders on the Irish Worldā€™s team in 1987. I always thought it was just Roche, Kelly, Kimmage and Earley. There was another lad from Tipperary called Alan McCormack who was riding in the US. He still lives there now. I canā€™t remember him even being mentioned in Rough Ride but Iā€™ll dig it out later on to check.

Indeed, in Rough Ride the chapter is entitled ā€œThe Fab Fourā€. During the race description Kimmage refers to ā€œthe other threeā€ and when Martin Earley is chasing down a break he is ā€œone quarter of the Irish teamā€.

McCormack mustā€™ve been a prize prick. I read he did 19 laps though, so he mustā€™ve contributed in some way. Odd.

He did all his racing in the US. He hardly knew the other 4.

The largest of retailer of toys in the world is McDonalds.

A bit of googling tells me his brother roomed with Kimmage in the early 80s and he won the Shay Elliot Memorial a couple of times so he must surely have been on nodding terms with the other 4. Youā€™d think heā€™d have at least thought, ok, weā€™ve the world number 1 and the Giro/Tour winner here and weā€™re going for victory, I should get to know them a little and be a part of itā€¦

Iā€™ve a mate at home who raced in that age group. Must ask him. Irish cycling was notorious for splits in the 70ā€™s.

Do that. Iā€™d love to know what his deal was.

Paul McCormack, his brother, raced with the Irish Olympic team of 1984 (featuring Kimmage and Earley) in the Coors Classic that year according to this piece. Assuming Alan raced that year too, I think it just makes the 1987 snub all the more odd. I wonder did he join in the celebrations, get a share of the prize moneyā€¦

People suspected of crime can now have their solicitor present during a Garda interview.

I hope he gets you off the hook mate.

Do you know who the biggest tyre manufacturer is?

No. I was talking to an FMCG expert, not an automotive expert. But go on,

Lego

Yeah but thatā€™s just cause they make loads of little tyres.

Is that why?

There are no flies on Glas, @Mac
