Things I learned today (Part 1)

Brian Cox was the first actor to portray Hannibal Lecter on the big screen in 1986’s Manhunter (Dir: Michael Mann) . Featuring a very young William Petersen in lead role (CSI Las Vegas’ Detective Gil Grissom).

Currently on ITV 4…it’s a cult classic.

Jesus GBLC. manhunter is a stone cold classic by Mann. It’s Miami vice meets Harris.

FWIW Cox’s lecktor (sic) is much more menacing than Hopkins hamming it up.

Also cain from RoboCop 2 (tom Noonan) is the tooth fairy

There is an rte doc on one about it. Sad story really. She shot the little cunt in the nose but didn’t kill him.

WARNING . This documentary may be upsetting for TFKs FG contingent. One of their own gets shot in the nose in it.

Is it not a radio doc?

There’s just something about 1980s movies, regardless of quality…especially ones from 83/84 onwards…ones that have that synth beat soundtrack. These are all the first movies i watched as a child…it brings back that longing in me. Childhood days, simpler happier times. Most things today are shit.

Today I learned, without really wanting to, that synthesiser music in movies triggers both nostalgia and disdain in Gary BL.

Nostalgia your heart out pal, this one’s for you

Here’s something I cannot believe that I didn’t know before this morning:

Tottenham Hotspurs are named after an ancient English knight called Henry Percy from Northumberland, who fought against the Scots and the French. Percy’s Scottish enemies gave him the nickname “Harry Hotspur” because he was so eager to charge them in battle.

Edit: Percy’s Tyrone-Italian enemies gave him the name “Harry Hotspud” because he was such a big potato. @Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy

Newton already works for Physics jokes. For example “The apple does fall far from the tree”

Desmond Guinness who single handedly led Ireland’s architectural conservation was the step son of Oswald Mosley.

The word shamrock comes from Arabic

The rugby equivalent of ‘hammer the hammer’ is ‘kill the king’. Fitting.
