Armagh were managed to the 1977 All-Ireland final by Gerry O’Neill, brother of none other than Martin O’Neill of Celtic and Notts Forest and World Cup Espana '82 fame. Gerry died in July 2025.

Armagh also had a player in 1953 named Gerry O’Neill but he was a different person. He was the team’s free taker. This Gerry was from Middletown and died in August 2010.
