Tipperary GAA 2020 - The Famine Is Over - Ireland's Premier Dual County

They would often lose a lad to the bigger clubs beside them as a lad would’ve wanted to play senior. They really should’ve won a junior hurling over the past 20 years.

They lose a lot of lads to emigration also in fairness over the years. They’d always go to school in Killenaule or Ballingarry though and they’d have plenty of lads who wouldn’t look out of place on the school teams and then they’d just never push on

Being half cracked doesn’t help them either.

Mental shower. Always a row playing them

Its very hard to make progress up from Junior these days.

I doubt any club currently below Intermediate will ever rise up to compete at Senior the way Kildangan have done in last 30 years.

Unfortunately he did, Paul Flynn took him for 3 goals+ in the final?

The Munster minor final that year ?

Yes

Clare got five lads who player senior championship off the team below, plus a few others who knocked around the senior panel. McGrath the only Tipp one who made impact at senior from what i can recall

I’d presume that is James Barry in midfield not Seamus as named. Seamus was his dad. A few lads there at the periphery of the panel in winter. O Gorman, Willie Ryan and David Butler.

That was a very tidy full forward line East Clare had.

On another note McDonnell is a great hurling journalist. I’m surprised he hasn’t been picked up by any of the national papers.

Do you think so? He must spend about 20 hours a day rewatching games and coming up with pointless stats.

He’s no JJ Kennedy.

He’s a serious man for the stats alright.

Conor McGrath was some yoke for a few years. Lovely hurler.

An unbelievable finisher of goals from 20+ yards out.

The goal in the 13 final replay and one he scored vs Tipp in a munster semi in Limerick in 09/11 after about 20 seconds of throw in.

His auld man is Toome I believe. He didn’t get his deli counter demeanour there.

Aye, father is Toome alright

  1. Scored a peach against Galway in 2013 as well but low into the corner.

Almost singlehanded dragged us over the line both days against Wexford in 2014 too, hit about 1-10 from
play in those two games. He lost a bit of appetite for I/C hurling after that and was never the same as hip and hamstring injuries took away a bit of his pace. A real joy to watch when in full flow, one of my favourites to watch in a Clare jersey.

His performance in the A/I replay was incredible, O’Donnell took the headlines off him but he was outstanding especially in the second half when Clare were wilting, worked his socks off and scored an amazing goal

Taught in CBS Sexton street and coached the harty team too.

A double hard bastard. Pat Tobin poleaxed him at training one even when Joe was marking him and tried to put manners on him. Cleaved him so he did
