Left-handedness - Better Health Channel

The memory is holding up some bitâŚ
My auld lad is right-handed. He only left to go down home this morning. Should have asked him was it bate out of him (78 later this year).
Took up golf at 57. Fairly handy. Left handed golfer, cos he could stay right hand on top, and said he was always able to hurl off both sides (finds it criminal that more lads donât practice enough off their weak side)
Some mix of clubs there. Ballylooby canât have had too many county hurling minors
A lot of the big clubs not represented either.
Maybe itâs a good thing but Iâd fear the opposite.
Iâm completely out of touch with underage hurling these days so canât comment on the quality.
Thereâs as many South Tipp junior clubs represented as Dan Breen clubs on the starting team by my reckoning
Fergalâs young fella in the goals?
Yeah. Great to see lads being in there from so called smaller hurling clubs.
Hard to see how the likes of Sars, Mullinahone, Drom or Toome arenât providing a few all the same.
Not sure, possibly.
That family is so big
He has a lad around that age alright.
Fairly sure it is. I think Fergal fell out with the Co Board last year about the young lad not being on the panel. Refused to do any games for them. Wasnât seen in the Stadium at the business end of the year. Happy to ref junior games in the west.
As a matter of interest, would Tipp Minor teams generally have most of them on the age? That minor side above for example, would they all mostly be on the age of 17 or would you have lads underage again next year?
I think this year the vast majority of them are up to the age. Wasnât the case last year.
Fergalâs son was in goals last year too.
The fallout with the County Board goes back to the 2020 Co. Semi Final when he sent off Jake Morris and reported him for an offence that carried a 3 or 6 month suspension, ruling JM out of the 2020 Covid Championship.
The big wigs in power said âthis cant happenâ and overturned it.
Fergal told them to go fuck themselves and hasnât refereeed a Co Board organised game since.
The primary school âwriting handâ undoubtedly a factor here and is thankfully no longer a consideration.
Subsequently it might go someway given modern teaching techniques and evolving GAA coaching to explaining the high (or at least perceived to be high) amount of proper Citeogs operating currently at inter county level compared to 10/20 years ago.
If 10-12% of the population are naturally lefthanded, there is a highly disproportionate amount now playing senior inter county hurling. Being left handed has always presented a statistical advantage in individual sports like boxing and tennis.
There are plenty of studies on the matter see below (cc @endakenny ) where in fact they delve into sight and perception and the idea of our eyes actually having a master/slave relationship and that having a holistic effect on subsequent functions. In Hurling we mainly attribute focus to a dominant hand or a âwriting handâ for complete guidance on how technical skills are initiated and developed.

If Kerry have anything about them, theyll fancy this.
About 10 of that panel wouldnt be guaranteed to start for their Adult Club 1st teams.
Thatâs not true. The GK, 12 and 6 didnât start for their clubs last year. All the rest did.
