Yeah well, I’m getting a shiny new designer one next month so I am. So there

I’ll believe it when I see it

Is that an invitation? You’re scaring me now

A roaster lad with a few bob took his office out to Chapter One back in the day. He complained about the small portions. The manager offered a free bottle of wine in apology. The roaster refused saying that he did not usually drink on an empty stomach.

Or so the story goes.

I could see a big difference between the Protestant Culchie salute and the fenian Culchie salute.

I was hearing from a colleague that it’s impossible to get a booking in Dublin at the weekend.

Are there many places opened up?

So which is which?

Very difficult

Brought Mrs Croppy to Mount Juliet last week during our sojourn to to the Irish Riviera.

Tasting menu in the Lady Helen was unreal.

How was the service? I know someone who was in Mount Juliet last week and apparently it was all over the shop. Breakfast in particular was disasterous, they said it felt like they had hired a load of young people and let them at it.

That was my experience in Farnham. Was a bit haphazard with staff not knowing the lay of the lad. Should be less of an issue when places have been open a few weeks.

I’d say it’s a big problem for the hospitality industry at the minute. The experienced staff are still holding out on the PUP and the restaurant have to hire students to fill the void.

The Lady Helen was excellent, not a thing out of place or wrong.

We had lunch and breakfast in The Hound and that was a disaster. I’m willing to overlook it as a once off due to the fact that they’re only getting a load of staff trained up after the lockdown.

The Protestant culchie salute is much more dramatic, they point their index finger and raise their hand as high as their head, they sort of give their hand a tiny little twirl as they do it. I’d hardly seen anything like it before. The Catholic culchie salute is more subtle, no less heartfelt but there’s a bit more of a wink or nod to it and most of the hand movement is in the wrist. I was thinking about the differences and I was wondering if it has something with the different ways they bless themselves.

I should say I’m not a bigot and I quite like the Proddy version.

That’s it in a nutshell. However it’s important to note that the prod one is entirely derivative…it’s from one of those silly American car jape computer game crime type movies. Ask my good friend* @Malarkey , he’s up to speed with culture etc
*whether he likes it or not

I’m the very happy recipient of a Chapter One lunch booking (and voucher I hope!) as a birthday gift. Can’t wait.

Surely the ornery people of the land just want to get back to work?

The ornery ones don’t want to do anything.
