Another Cork simpleton…
I can’t decide on a top 3
Brian Whelehan
Tommy Walsh
Eoin Kelly (Tipp)
DJ Carey
Paul Flynn
DJ
Tommy
The King
Are they the only three camogie players you’ve ever heard of or what. Anna Geary wasn’t in the top three on her team.
You could have at least thrown in Angela Downey
DJ Carey was always visibly playing on a higher plane to anybody else around him, either on his own team or on opposition teams, and he was so for over a decade. His superiority was Messi-like.
Like Peter Canavan in Gah, the sheer breadth of his skills and his mastery of them were incomparable.
He was the master of the solo run.
He was the master of the overhead flick.
He was the master of catching a high ball and finishing.
He had superior vision to any other player and was always a team player.
His first touch was superior to anybody else.
He could have made space in a telephone box he was so good at emerging out of crowded areas.
He wasn’t charismatic in a personality sense but he became box office within a short space of time because of what he was as a player.
Superior skills + box office + clutch + longevity = the greatest.
The sawdoctors have a song about them. Tommy, The K and DJ
I know it was put to bed in later years but wasn’t there a thing about DJ that he didn’t perform on the big day early in his career
You tend to get these conspiracy theories from people talking in pubs
Carey has 5 All-Irelands and in four of those finals he was excellent
That’s enough
Yeah but how does he compare in finals to say, Ken McGr… Nevermind.
He played in 8 finals though
9 I believe
7 of which he was chiefly responsible for Kilkenny reaching
DJ shat himself when faced with the rebels on the big day. Eoin Kelly could never get the better of Ollie Canning. Please leave both out of the reckoning, they can’t be considered GOATs. Club performance should also be taken into consideration.
Another wexford kk crotch sniffer
Except for the 1-5 he got in the 92 final against them.
Funny when that is mentioned to any cork lads, they conveniently forget all about it.
Then of course it’s the - ‘yerra he only did it on the one day’ - admission
Don’t be a cark idiot, mate.
Oh we’re actually being serious about this so? Right. The best 3 I have seen in no particular order
Eoin Kelly (Tipp),
JJ Delaney,
Henry Shefflin
On his current trajectory Cian Lynch could be talked about in this company in 5 or 6 years time. The sheer influence he now has on every game is huge. Joe Canning is already in the company of those 3 too.
What did he get from play? I’m not from Cark. I have two Kilkenny in the top 3.
It’s only my opinion fatty, dont be getting upset.
3 points iirc.
Dirty day it was too.
I know you’re not from cark, just don’t take as gospel everything you hear out of them.
I was there in '93 and he drove a few frees wide, don’t know what he scored from play but it wasn’t much. He didn’t do much in the '98 final either. While Shefflin always had greats around him they folded when he went off in the 2010 final. All opinions I suppose but I find it hard to fathom why DJ is deemed better than Shefflin.

Eddie Keher
