Britain’s Chris Froome suffered a fracture to his neck in Wednesday’s serious crash, scans have shown.

The four-time Tour de France champion faces six weeks in hospital and is not expected to compete again this year.

Froome, 34, lost consciousness after the crash and also sustained a fractured right femur, a broken hip, a fractured elbow and fractured ribs.

As the man said, not normal. Martin was under pressure early on the Tourmalet just doesn’t have the top speed any more. Sky/ineos didn’t dominate the pace setting like they usually do and Thomas blew near the end. Alaphilippe has a nice little cushion now. No team for the mountains though.

The Italians will be back next year with a strong team at this rate. Pinot is a great cyclist and iv seen him win in 2016 on huez when quintana nearly exploded with drugs climbing it in 2nd. This alaphippe lad is on Armstrong /froome,/wiggins levels,. Next few days will tell us the story but can’t keep it up…
