TTK's Profitable Selections 2012

Not a great weekend. The last gasp Aus try killed the profit but Ulster as usual covered the handicap with ease. The cash machine that keeps on giving.

Unlucky pal. I took Wales +3 but put all three in a treble.

Ulster manager Mark Anscombe is a very shrewd man, great words here, shows the ambition and confidence he has in his men, also suggesting Gilroy won’t be starting this weekend.

“It didn’t feel like a win against the Scarlets and was pretty disappointing,” Anscombe toldercrugby.com.

"It was a poor game of rugby from both teams. We did enough to set up a platform to take the game. But we didn’t look after the ball, we gave away too many silly penalties, played dumb rugby and were inaccurate.

"They’re wins but I’m not taking a lot of comfort from the way we’re playing. We have better players than our performances are indicating.

"Some guys had an opportunity to put their hands up for selection and they didn’t take it and will be missing out next week.

"We know we have a lot to do between now and next Friday or we will get our backsides kicked in Northampton.

“We have only five days to turn it around and have to get back on our feet. We don’t have a lot of time so it will be up to individuals to execute better than against the Scarlets.”

In fairness to gilroy the conditions were more suitable to trimble than to his type game.

Would there be anything to be said for budging Bowe or Payne in to 13 to accommodate gilroy and Trimble on the wings? Might be good for Ireland too to have another option there. Not convinced earls or cave are gonna develop enough to fill that jersey when o’driscoll finally goes. I’d have said trimble in to 12 as an option too but Marshall but should be let develop there now.

It would be lunacy to put Payne at 13 and Bowe at 15 just to facilitate Gilroy and Trimble on the wings. Cave and Wallace are a serious center partnership, they’re under-rated. It’s great as is I think. You have serious impact substitutes in Gilroy Marshall and to a lesser extent Paul Marshall. I do think the Trimble will be benched for Gilroy before the season ends, who knows it might even be like that tomorrow night. Great to hear Anscombe saying his players are playing poor rugby and are capable of much better, they’re 12 from 12 this season!

The Ospreys gave Bowe plenty chances at 13 and concluded he was a Rabo standard player in the centre and world class on the wing. He is not a very good defender at all which is the foundation of playing 13 at that level. Cave is a far better option there than he is. Any fear they will hit a flat spot TTK? Hard, if not impossible to maintain the level of performance.

Ttk, connacht are beset with injuries for the weekend with 13 out. I have it in mind to bet everything i,ll lose from the budget on biarritz-6.
What d’ya think?

My bet of the weekend Julio. I’ll put up reasoning later. Lump on, -5 there too at 5/6.

Nothing for European (insert your own joke here) Cup TTK ???

Bet 157

Ulster to beat Northampton 3 points 11/8 Ladbrokes

Again not a lot of reasoning needed here as I’ll sound like a broken record. I thought I might get 6/4, 13/8 so it’s not a max bet at 11/8. Ulster have named as strong a side possible with the likes of Nick Williams, Craig Gilroy, Luke and Paul Marshall on the bench. Northampton have began to play well of late but they won’t have faced a team as good as Ulster this season. I’m hoping for the unbeaten run to extend to 13, no reason why it shouldn’t. SUFTUM

Bet 158

Connacht v Biarritz (-5) 5 points 10/11 VC

Cannot believe this line. All I keep hearing people say is “Connacht is a tough place to go” what the fuck? No it’s not, especially not for a team with the flair of Biarritz. Weather is fine which is massive. They have been playing some good stuff domestically of late and come here with a very strong squad. They are four points behind Harlequins and they need a bonus point win to give themselves a real chance of topping the group. Connacht on the other hand aren’t at full strength, if it wasn’t for Parks they would be fucked. 5 points is a very small handicap to cover, and if Biarritz can start well (I think they will have to) then they will cover with ease. I’m also going to play the alternative handicaps up to about 17 but for small stakes.

Bet 159

Munster (-3) v Saracens 5 points 10/11 numerous

Another max bet for me here. Munster at home in Thomand to a Saracens side who although decent, have been flattered by recent results. Sarries beat Edinburgh 45-0 and then hammered Metro. That doesn’t tell the full story. We were with them for those games but Edinburgh played worse than a school team in the first game and it was a seriously weakened Metro side that they faced in Belgium. Munster’s hopes of staying in the comp rely on the next two games against Sarries and they can definitely cover tomorrow. Munster are beginning to play some better rugby in the Rabo in recent weeks, an impressive 31-3 win over Glasgow last week and they know that a win here is achievable. They were once formidable in European rugby at home, now they are only asked to cover a 3 point handicap against a decent but not excellent English side. If they can contain Strettle and Ashton then it’s pretty much job done as Munster will win the battle up front. Line looks too low.

Bet 160

3 point treble on Munster (-4), Biarritz (-5) and Ulster (+2) pays 5.96/1 with VC.

Biarritz have lost their last six away HC matches, this included games against Aironi and Treviso. Would help explain the short handicap.

Connaught 7-3.

Connaught won’t be bet.

Connaught is a hard place to go to

they look a spineless bunch of cunts in the 20 minutes or so iv been watching this and its easy see why that record is about to go to 7

its 19-9 to connacht with 7 to go

ulster accounting for northampton handy enough

Ulster look a serious outfit. I still think Clermont and Toulon are the two best sides in the competition but Ulster are certainly pushing them on current form.

What a night!!! Ulster win by 19 with a bonus point. Stunning, just stunning. I may go collect my outright bet now!!

You’ve taken plaudits on here plenty of times TTK but your homework on the Connacht match (as pointed out by Hannibal) was very very poor

Don’t let it happen again

While i"ve lost a few quid on biarritz tonight( french bottlers) the ulster bet has me treading water. Clermont will be the decider for my weekend.
