A peak audience of 1.1million watched Galway claim the All-Ireland SHC title on Sunday, making it RTE’s most watched programme of 2017 so far.
The average audience was 901,500 which meant that 73% of people watching television in Ireland at the time were tuned in to The Sunday Game Live on RTÉ2.

By comparison the Republic of Ireland’s soccer World Cup game against Georgia had an average audience of just 486,000 a day earlier on RTÉ2.

In fairness @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy has a different set of figures.

Oh people can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent

Some dexterous massaging of figures going on here to contrive a happy ending.

Why the drop off in interest in Irish soccer this year mate?

??

1 million watched the 2 Irish teams this week

The ROI were getting a million plus last year, down to less than half that now. A crisis you could say.

The audit fail ?

His our the official figures, they average them out. Peak, average et al. Check TAM.

Between 2012-2016 in the top 20 shows in Ireland there were 5 hurling games and 11 Gaelic football games. 13 rugby football and 11 soccer games.

So the GAA scored more top twenties than Rugby & Soccer? Incredible stats.

Are you trying to disprove your own point mate?

the GGA has 5 sports mate , so you would hope that the combined numbers were decent

The GGA have two live products to put out there. They are actually dreadful ratings.

Peak line soccer is 1.2m
Peak line rugby is 1.1m
Peak line gaelic football is 1m
Peak line hurling is 800k

25 years ago this wouldn’t have been the case.

The GGA is going backwards in Ireland.

  • National Team
  • All Island Team
  • individual counties

To disprove what exactly?

Hurling has 5 games in there. All are finals. One of the rugby games is England v Australia ffs, that outrated All Ireland semi finals ffs. Irish people would rather watch the Tans play the Criminals than watch a blockbuster GGA games between Dublin and Mayo.

Irrelevant.

As pointed out time and time again, the highest rated shows in Australia and the United States are AFL Grand Finals, NRL Grand Finals, State or Origin games and Super Bowls.

Those are “confined” to a narrow interest. Both are countries with heavy international sports calendars.

Basically the GGA’s interest among neutrals is not that high as the product is mediocre. If it was that good then the national would tune in just to see it. 20 odd years ago they did, but not anymore.

In a non world cup year more people watch Mrs Browns Boys than rugby.
