Hurling has 5 games in there. All are finals. One of the rugby games is England v Australia ffs, that outrated All Ireland semi finals ffs. Irish people would rather watch the Tans play the Criminals than watch a blockbuster GGA games between Dublin and Mayo.
As pointed out time and time again, the highest rated shows in Australia and the United States are AFL Grand Finals, NRL Grand Finals, State or Origin games and Super Bowls.
Those are “confined” to a narrow interest. Both are countries with heavy international sports calendars.
Basically the GGA’s interest among neutrals is not that high as the product is mediocre. If it was that good then the national would tune in just to see it. 20 odd years ago they did, but not anymore.
There were 80,000 at both those matches as well so both are comfortably above the England vs Oztrailia match.
Actually when you factor in attendances at both the KK v Galway final & Ireland vs England then the hurling beats that as well (since there was about 30,000 more at the hurling than the rugby). Remarkable really, two county sides having more viewers than the all Island rugby team against their biggest rivals.
The GAA is unbelievably popular.
Some episodes of Mrs Browns Boys have outrated hurling, gaelic football, rugby and football. Some haven’t. It’s a popular show, in the UK and Ireland. MBB’s has been the highest rated Christmas show on the BBC.
