Mr. Duffy claims TG4 “haven’t been covering the League for 20 years” and that RTE “had league coverage” before TG4.

What year did TG4 begin covering the leagues live? I have a feeling it was 2000 but am open to correction on this - I’m sure I recall watching a Limerick v Clare NHL tie that year from some windswept boghole of pitch in which Brian Begley scored at least one, possibly two goals.

In fact I’ve just checked it on Wikipedia and I’m correct that such a match took place.

So this would be this would their 19th season of coverage, which I guess would mean he’s technically right but he’s very much splitting hairs on this.

As regards RTE’s supposed previous “league coverage”, I believe he’s referring to a couple of token attempts they made at covering NFL/NHL finals live in 1999/2000. I don’t believe they ever broadcast any other league matches live apart from this and am sure TG4 took over live coverage of the finals from 2001.

I had a look at the exchanges I think the guy with large forehead made a very good point around the scheduling. Surely it’s a case of he who pays the piper calls the tune?
If TG4 are buying the rights then they should have a significant input into the scheduling, although In the early winter months there may be an issue around fading light, with games starting later than 2:30pm.

The commentator thing doesn’t bother me and I’d say that Forehead guy was just looking for a reaction with those tweets. It’s easier listen to than Ger Canning anyways.

I’m more a reader than a participant / troll on twitter mate — someone here even commented recently that my tweet machine is very boring, which is true.

If I’m blocked, can the person still see my comments if I tweet/tag them? I was able to tag Jamie there when I asked him was he going to retire from social media also…

Don’t worry mate, my twitter feed is very boring too but it obviously doesn’t reflect my persona on other platforms

That game took place in Miltown Malbay. It was the beginning of transforming Begley from full-back, where he’d played in the previous year’s championship, to the towering colossus he could have become at full-forward if he wasn’t always injured.

2000 was the year alright.

I was at that game. Begley took on the red helmet some 40 yards out and got in for a goal. That was a collectors piece.
