U-21 Hurling 2018

We were way better than them; their touch was shocking and they were set up so negatively, their forwards hadnā€™t a hope. We dominated their puckout and although we didnā€™t win many of ours clean, we got more than them and if you have that much more possession, with the forwards we have, we were always going to win.

I thought Adams struggled, thought it was strange that he was chosen to start, thought it was strange ALTC wasnā€™t even brought off the bench but Grimes did well when he came in. I thought Fanning did well. Nothing there that convinced me Hayes isnā€™t a centre-back. Not perfect, but heā€™s a natural defender.

Lynch was good in flashes, but can do so much moreā€¦ I actually thought Morrissey can offer a lot more too and he scored 1-4 from play. Nash looked dangerous when he got the ball in hand, was fouled a good few times. A real threat. Same with Casey when it opened up in the second half.

Hanleyā€™s a pure workhorse, a real asset. Malachy was very good first half, quieter second, still would prefer him somewhere where he can use his aerial ability. Ronan Lynch did well. A lot of the subs did well- Grimes & Boylan in particular and I was surprised that Boylan was first sub. Ahern got himself a nice point too.

I thought Barry Murphy had a fine game; the most unheralded of the starting forwards but a good player for Doon and he did a good job at centre-forward I thought. Iā€™d still like to see Colin Ryan in as a half-forward just as another puckout option.

I donā€™t know how Tipp were so bad. I know their minor team three years ago was one of the worst Iā€™ve ever seen, but they followed that up with two very good minor teams and youā€™d have thought that would have shone through. They had one little purple patch but we always looked slicker, more skilful as well as being more up for it which was surprising.

Not a perfect performance by any means, lots to work on, but weā€™ve laid down a marker. Itā€™ll take a good team to beat us. Winners of Cork/Waterford will very likely be a good team.

Were you a big fan of Pro Evolution Soccer for the PlayStation back in the day by any chance mate?

Hard to take anything from last nights game

Iā€™d expect Waterford to win that well. Cork have an excellent minor team this year but their 21s are no great shakes. Likewise Clare, whom Limerick should dispose of comfortably. Donā€™t panic now, fellow countymen, like people did over the last few days when I said that weā€™d win handily last night.

It will be a Limerick v Waterford final and thereā€™ll only be a puck of a ball between them in that one. The fact that Limerick will play all their games in the Gaelic Grounds will be a slight advantage.

I should never have doubted you, pal. :+1:

Nothing Joe only that young Kyle Hayes looks to have potential and with a few games at centre back might learn to distribute the ball better.
We lacked pace in the half back line and our mid field (apart from the first 20 mins) were indifferent.
For a team to dominate as much as we did the ball into our forwards was no better than a D grade.

I think weā€™ll beat Clare and Waterford, unless we get complacent.

Kyle Hayes is an outstanding player.

Lynch is good but he can just drifts in and out of the game too

Wednesday July 12th.

I reckon Cork will beat Waterford myself and I would hope weā€™d have too much for them too.

The great man talks .

Waterford must be fair shite then. Itā€™s a very average Cork team besides the four lads and Oā€™Flynn/Collins.

After losing our only natural corner-forward Billy Dunne to injury as well.

Wexford any chance tonight lads? @Bandage

KK have home advantage but it doesnā€™t seem like they have a great crop after struggling past Westmeath.
